Looks like something new is coming

Just went through my whole list.

So far, out of 97 stories/chapters across two pen names, 19 of my stories have links.

On those 19 stories, there are a total of 85 links.

Out of those 85 links, I find 25 to be completely disconnected from the story that has them - no similarity at all.

Out of the remaining 60, at least 50% are vague connections, such as category with little storyline similarity, or storyline similarities in a broad sense.

Out of those 30, I'd say about 10 meet a bar to be called similar, sharing a category ( or close enough ), storyline connections, etc.

The remaining 20 I would call solidly similar. Most are links to stories from me/others in the same series, or sharing main characters, but some are simply stories that are similar to the one linked from other authors.

Some of the vague/non similar connections are nice, even if they aren't really similar. One of my Laresa chapters is linked to Marsh's Living Dolls, and another story is linked to Colleen's The Chair. A couple of stories are linked to tales well-placed in the favorites list.

And I'm not once linked to scouries, sarahhh, or BFW - Woot! *laugh*

I'm still scratching my head, wondering how my little "sam the christmas fairy" is anything like Colleen's amazing "call to the abyss"???

strange world...

eta: and while I'm amazingly flattered to be linked to Doc's "Game of Dress-Up" I have NO idea what that story's relation is to Under Mr Nolan's Bed??
Maybe Mr. Nolan keeps dress-up clothes under his bed?

LOL!

Would be a good guess... but there's nothing under Mr. Nolan's Bed but porn... well, almost nothing... except a great big secret... but it's not women's clothes!

:D

four of my stories are cross linked now - Some of them accurately some of them WTF? LOLOL...
neat Idea - just hope it narrows down so I dont end up linked with incest stories (that one got me ruffled).....

Still all in all cool:cool:

Just how is a how-to story about cunninlingus related to one of scouries incest stories? <shudder>

I got linked to one of BFWs too. :( (That I'm sure was not related at all and was probably just put there because it was non-erotic too.)

I haven't gotten halfway down my list yet, but so far, most of mine are linked. I have gotten some good linkage though and of course, some that had nothing at all to do with with the story.

That's okay, my short story about a woman who's abducted by a stranger, tied up in a basement, fucked and sodomized is apparently like a poem about eating a piece of fruit.

I think I'll get brave and have a look.

ETA: weird all right.
Three of my stories are linked, two of them the worst!
Only one has links to similar stories.
And one of my stories with that little W is linked to stories that are illustrated as well.
Seems to be the only connection.

Tssss!!!

My latest is linked to 3113's Till Dawn and Transportation Challenge by Coming Together. I'm happy. :cathappy:

:D

I needed that laugh.

My story, The Troll Hunter--Farcical tale of ridding the Literotica Forest of trolls--is linked with several items, not the least of which are Sweeteuphoria's lovely stories, Thanksgiving Feast and The Storm. How my little joke could possibly compare to such wonderful tales is beyond me, but I found it rather amusing. And perplexing. ;)

I would have thought that story would have been linked to my story, "There Is No Joy in Trollville" :)because of the similarity in subject matter, but it is not.

I know. It's also linked to a couple of How-to stories... LOL. I guess that makes sense as it shows "how" to hunt trolls in the Literotica forest. :D

Whatever is doing the linking seems to have stopped. My stories that didn't get linked still have no links.

Too bad. The links often lead to stories that are quite good. Not always, but often. ;)

May have paused the process to refine it, based upon the comments here in the thread. The powers that be do a lot more reading herebouts than many believe from what I've observed ( even threads where few dare venture *laugh* )

Our story "Best Served Warm and Buttered" is linked to Rev's "How to be a Happy Hooker" and Hmmnmm's poem, "Futility." This is very flattering, yet still puzzling.

I can only hope the link to Rev's how-to is due to our fabulous hook on that story, but remain doubtful. I mean, it's an ok hook, but...

Hmmnmm's poem is lovely, and I'm thinking the link comes from his first stanza, which mentions "nimble fingers deftly parting..." as there is a section in our story describing a man's hands as he kneads bread dough. This is a tenuous connection, at best, though I do like it. I think as a reader I'd be pleased to read that poem after reading our story.

These are all cross-referenced, as well. So, ok. I can live with that. :)

My "A Stitch in Time Pt. 07" is linked to my own "A Stitch in Time Pt. 01." My hope is that readers would have actually read Part 1 first, since the story makes little sense otherwise, but at least it makes some superficial sense.

My favorite so far: My "Short Order Troll," which is described, right there in black and white, or blue and white - whatever - as a whimsical homage to SweetWitch's "The Troll Hunter," is linked to my own "Goin' Fishin'" but not to SweetWitch's "The Troll Hunter."

Anyone up for a quick game of "Six Degrees of Dr. Mabeuse?"

My head is starting to ache. I can barely follow the lineage.

sorry but

bwahahahahaha!!!!!!

lmao!! thats sooo freakin funny :D :D

we've gotta do a intense check to see;)

but i dont get it
Me neither.

I also fail to see the connection between a girl hitchihiker getting abducted by two men, tied to a bed and seriously screwed and a nightshift nurse relieving her tension on the biggest dick she'd ever seen, belonging to a male patient.

Oh hang on - there's a bed involved, that must be it.

Hi y'all,

Can I ask for more of the references to be linked, please? Those of us who are interested in this phenomenon, but haven't yet become involved (OK, I - me!) would like to see this in action...

Thanks in advance,

::In his best Zeus from Altered Beast voice:: Rise from your grave!

Pardon the ressurection.

Just found out something new about this whole thing. When I look at the same story in IE and Firefox, I get a different list of "similar stories" between the two browsers.

Unfortunately, I don't see any more real similarity between the viewed story and the suggested links in either browser. Pretty much six of one and half a dozen of another. Some links seem logical, others are complete "What the?!"

Now, as soon as I've typed that and went to put up lists of what the different browsers were displaying ( to see if all users were seeing the same "similar" links), IE is showing the same stories as Firefox showed previously... ( Which had changed since the last time I looked a few weeks ago ) The method they're using to display these is baffling me. To have different stories update at different times is one thing. To have the same story update at different times on different browsers is another.

I can usually reverse-engineer code in my head, but this one is beyond my fathomizatin'.

Weird.

At least the "Also in this series" seems to work pretty well.

My "Arts Ardane" series doesn't use Ch. or Pt. in the titles - just numbers - and the series code catches all of them just fine

( note that you must request in the "notes" section of the submission form to keep Ch. from showing up in the title of anything numbered, otherwise it gets added by default )

Likewise, all the Danica stories are linked in the series box, even though the first and last parts are titled "Prelude" and "Epilogue" instead of having chapter numbers.

As long as I'm off topic, I just found a handy little bbcode that saves keystrokes for story links on the forum.

[story=347477]While Cupid's Away...[/story]

Output:

While Cupid's Away...

The number is the Lit ID at the end of the URL for your story. No need to put the whole literotica.com/stories/etc/etc in to display a link.

I've seen a couple with "Also in this series" that aren't - they have the same word in the title but there the commonality ends.

As to the "similar stories" thing, it's pretty much useless - although apparently Monsieur scouries voted for my How To based solely on the amusement value of the similars list.
