Looking for story

Hello - I am looking for a story that I read a while ago, but cannot locate. It is about a man who is widowed and he meets a nice woman at the church he attends. It is a story in several chapters. He spends a lot of time helpng fix her house and they fall in love. it is very sweet.

The author had a picture of himself as a dog - I think a golden retriever.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
