Some women might not enjoy the outdoors as much as you do. No one wants to hear some guy rant about the "rape of the environment" and other imagined ills of the world. It's just my guess, and I am biased, but this is what I see. However, I admire your commitments and your hobbies, I wish I could go digging in the dirt and exploring caves and camping. About that comment. First off, you are right to an extent. I have been referred to as an eco-vigilante before. This is the way I see it. This planet and the environment are all we have and they sustain us. With out that we would die. That makes it the most important thing in the world to me. Why are people worried about taxes and other bullshit when we are losing 7 species a day. Without that biodiversity, human civilization WILL fall. That is an ecological fact of life. We are so small and yet the universe is so large. All we can really control is if we are good or if we are evil. To me the choice is simple, live peacefully and respectfully with nature and nature will give you life and you will prosper. Abuse nature and you will be destroyed. Simple concept, and VERY logical if you understand biology and ecology. But than again, most people don't understand either field, they simply don't care enough. If you haven't seen the movie Instinct or read the book Ishmael by Danial Quinn, you should, it will change your life and the future of this little blue marble.

Excluding mass extinctions, the extinction rate for the history of the planet has been one species per every million per year. That is to say that for every million species alive, one goes extinct every year. Today it is now something between 1000 and 2000 species for every million living species.
