I'm resubmitting this advert with an amended title to clarify that, unlike my other advert in the BDSM Personals, I'm seeking here friends from anywhere in the world — for online dialogue via e-mail, instant messenger, voice, video etc — not just from the UK. The crucial point is that we "click" together, but I don't believe that's location dependent.
You know that magical spark? You're chatting to a stranger and you see the other person's eyes light up when you make an obscure reference to something that turns out to be a shared passion. It might be a brand of comedy, an arcane branch of knowledge, an album track that's the best thing ever — it doesn't matter what it is. You've made a connection that's rare and special. Hours go by like minutes as you chat. The rest of the world can wait with the revelation that someone else sees things your way. You share an seemingly telepathic understanding that allows you both to dive quickly and easily into intimate conversation.
It doesn't happen very often. I spend most of my time in conversation that's mundane or superficial. As an introvert, that's a massive drain on my resources. I'd prefer to focus my limited energy on the deeper encounters that I love — the ones that can change the worlds inside both your heads in a beautiful way, even if the one around you remains stubbornly unchanged.
I have little idea how to find people who fit the bill — that's the problem with "magical" things. I'm trying the Lit Personals section more in hope than expectation. I've made quite a few friends on the forums over the years, but with little in common outside Lit. On the forums, I find that my postings that most reflect my personality usually fall completely flat. Maybe my British sense of humour doesn't travel very well, or perhaps the concept of a married guy not seeking to cheat just doesn't compute.
There's probably no short cut. I'm not necessarily seeking immediate replies to this advert, as I haven't provided enough information here for anyone to judge whether that spark might exist between us. My aim in posting this advert is to raise my Lit profile a bit and make it clear that I'm open to new connections. I'm hoping that I might then stand out more as worthy of contact to anyone who reads my forum postings and finds that my words resonate with them. Perhaps it might also catch the eye of those who have already interacted with me. If the upshot is that it causes one person who feels an affinity towards one of my postings to break cover with me, then it will have been worthwhile.
For the record, I tend to keep tinglebliss informed about my conversations. That's not because she's looking over my shoulder — she's not possessive — but rather because I like the idea that friends that I make might become friends with tinglebliss as well. Having said that, if anyone were to express the wish to chat to me privately, then naturally I would respect that.
Let the tumbleweeds roll!

P.S. Here's a different joke from last time. If it makes you laugh, then you should definitely consider getting in touch:
N.B. Laughing at the joke isn't a mandatory prerequisite for getting in touch — just encouragement that it might be worth it.

An engineer, a physicist and a mathematician are staying in a hotel.
The engineer wakes up and smells smoke. He goes out into the hallway and sees a fire, so he fills a trash can from his room with water and douses the fire. He goes back to bed.
Later, the physicist wakes up and smells smoke. He opens his door and sees a fire in the hallway. He walks down the hall to a fire hose and after calculating the flame velocity, distance, water pressure, trajectory, etc. extinguishes the fire with the minimum amount of water and energy needed.
Later, the mathematician wakes up and smells smoke. He goes to the hall, sees the fire and then the fire hose. He thinks for a moment and then exclaims, "Ah, a solution exists!" and then goes back to bed.
N.B. Laughing at the joke isn't a mandatory prerequisite for getting in touch — just encouragement that it might be worth it.
