I gave my story to an editor that told me he would have it back to me in a day or so.. well it's been almost 3 weeks and I'm starting to get a little antsy because I haven't heard from him.
I emailed him and haven't gotten any response yet...

Should I still wait around? Get a new editor? Freak out that someone might have taken my story?

he hasn't taken your story....i was promising next day, that went to next week, and now i've had 2 stories for a month...some editor's just simply get behind.

give him a day or so to respond, and then go to the sticky at the top of the thread and find another. i wouldn't challk it up to being a necessarily uncaring or bad editor, sometimes unforeseen things happen.

don't freak out, lit's not going anywhere and your stoy will be able to go up, i really seriously doubt he's taken and submitted as his own.

No reason, in the interests of other writers here, not to name the editor here if after a week or so, there's been no--or not satisfactory--communication. No reason nonresponsiveness should be rewarded. Anyone accepting responsibility should be held accountable for what they signed up for.

When I offered to edit a story and never got it I never thought twice, figuring another editor took the job. Not all of my offers are accepted. And then I found out a couple of weeks later it had been sitting in my SPAM folder at Yahoo, so this is a possibility. I'd contact the editor and find out.

As an editor I want to have open communications with my writers, responding when I receive stories, giving them updates if I get behind, etc. But that's just me. The relationship is not one-sided but two-sided, a team effort so to speak. Open communications are a must.

Just my thoughts and experiences.

Ok, thanks guys.
There was a thread in the AH about someone having found their work posted by someone else so I was just a little concerned.
I think everything will be working itself out, thanks a lot, and hopefully my third story will be up soon!

Mystery solved. Spicy was nice enough to respond in a PM that I was the one at fault, and so I'll take the blame. What happened is that her email ended up in my SPAM folder, and the email name is different from the Lit name, so I had no idea what it was even when I'd found it.

So there's an inherent problem here, even if not widespread. I apologized to her and promised to return it right quickly, which is all I can do except express embarrassmnet and shame, which I'm accustomed to already (being married).

But this brings up another issue... how do editors correlate Lit names with completely different email names?

The easiest way would be by using the PM system - the writer tells the editor to expect the email from "differentname". Problem solved.

I keep a list. It would, however, make everything a whole lot easier if authors would remember point number 3 from the DO list:
When sending an editing request to a VE, DO include your Literotica ID and a valid e-mail address that the VE can reach you at. If the e-mail address for your profile is fake, then the VE cannot reply to you.
It is a pain to receive an email from fredsmith@ISP.com signed John Doe and with no mention of the fact that the Lit name is Marywithnoknickers.

All's well that ends well. Edited story has been returned. Very nicely written, too..

I tell everyone who emails me to make sure they put LIT on the email so I know where it came from. And I tell them that if they don't, then in all likelihood I will delete it since I don't open mail from people I don't know.

I had one writer nice enough to tell me that her email would for sure end up in my spam box because of her username for her email (and sure enough it did). Otherwise, I rarely look through my spam box.

I admit it can be a problem, and most likely, even if going through email for the edit, maybe just chatting back and forth should happen through lit. I've seen some editors tell their writers to pm them after they've emailed so that they will know that an email was sent.

I've noticed experienced writers I've edited for also respond via PM, a good double-check in hindsight.

Not meaning to pound on anyone, but writers need to be more aggressive also. This is a great example of something gone wrong for all the right reasons (no ill intent, etc.)

Okay, I'll bite. Why the post, which has no edit history to support your claim?
if you edit soon enough after posting, it doesn't show an edit history....it's happened to me before, he may really have written something and then changed his mind right away and it wouldn't show

Ah, okay.

Thanks for the edit, AS!
I've posted the story and I'm still waiting for it to be approved.. when it is, I'll let you know!
Am I supposed to thank you in my credits? I didn't, but I wanted to say publicly that I appreciate your help.
