I've been looking for this story for maybe 7 years or more. It was definitely here, and it was quite memorable.
There were 3 distinct chapters, over which the protagonist has an affair with his mother.
The first chapter, there was a sort of company party, where the protagonist is goaded into starting with his mother, after the party.
The second chapter, he and his mother, not acknowledging the past incident, together go to his college town of St. Louis so he can move in.
Fate happens, and they proceed to have an illicit affair over the course of the school year.
They fall out of favor, and he beds his visiting cousin.
Chapter 3 is actually 2 alternate versions.
In one, his mother dies in a car accident, and the family finds out that she was pregnant.
The other, she doesn't die, but she loses the baby.
So yeah, I haven't been able to find it. Some other key points:
--The son and his mother played HORSE, as in basketball, at a certain point
--The cousin said something about a "party line" as a phrasing
--The mother had a knee injury from playing basketball in college
