Looking at how other countries do it should be the FIRST step

A lot of Americans seem to think we have nothing to learn from foreign countries, that how they handle problems has no relevance here.

That attitude is entirely stupid. In any country, education is education. Health care is health care. Poverty is poverty. What works elsewhere can work here. When formulating public policy, the first thing to do is look around the world and see if any country is handling a given problem well and, if so, how they are doing it.

I mean, I gotta laff cos this is like the exact opposite of what conservatism has become in the last few decades and what they are hoping to do in the coming months with an 'America First' foreign policy. Your warning is noted though.

Education, for instance. If we look at the countries generally agreed to achieve better results than the U.S. does -- The UK, France, Japan -- one thing they all have in common is centralized national control of the school system.

And there are morons here who want to abolish the federal Department of Education!

For instance: The only way school shootings/mass shootings are going to stop is if we have an America where you can be arrested just for having a gun. That works. This kind of thing does not happen in countries like Japan or the UK.

They just do things like release Sarin gas in the subways.

Ah, here it comes, the "waddaboutism" in this thread has finally arrived. It took a tad longer than usual today, but hey, it's the holidays season.

The Official Anecdote™ has arrived that somehow counters the enormous mass of data to the contrary regarding school shootings.

ALL worldwide Sarin gas deaths since 1995 attacks since 1995: 1.
Number of deaths from Sarin attacks: 13.
Number injured from Sarin attacks: 50 (some later died of complications following the attack).

School shootings in America JUST IN 2024: 83.
Number of deaths from school shootings JUST IN 2024 (through Dec 16th): 38.
Number injured from school shootings JUST IN 2024: 115.

It's worth noting that the school shooting numbers above are for less than a calendar year, and that similar statistics pile up year after year after year (the worst year on record was 2022, by the way).

So please, do go on about the extreme menace of Sarin gas attacks.

Second Amendment absolutists are a metastatic cancer on America.

In the UK Private schools perform much better than State schools
UK also has Free Schools ( Free as in choosing their own methods of teaching )
And also Faith Schools that can teach any mumbo-jumbo they fancy, like creationism

Currently parents are also free to choose to home educate but the current regime is contemplating doing away with that right.

Nah, it's the anti-civil rights leftoids like you that are a cancer on America.

Your communist anti-American ass should be one of the first deported, shoved out the ass of a C-130 into Pyongyang where you belong.

Actually, they're not communists any more., not officially.

Whatever cope you need to tell yourself.
It's still a Stalinist economy, but the official ideology is now something called Juche, meaning "self-reliance," meaning economic autarchy -- the idea that the country should be able to get along with no foreign trade. Very nationalist and un-Marxist.
