It's interesting work, but the "foreskin" claim seems like misreporting on ArsTechnica's part.

The original paper has no mention of "foreskin" or the synonym "prepuce". What it does say about the sourcing of the skin cells is that they used normal human dermal fibroblasts (NHDFs) and normal human epidermal keratinocytes (NHEKs), both purchased from PromoCell GmbH.

According to PromoCell's website, their NHEKs come from a variety of sources, including both juvenile foreskin and "adult skin from different locations like the face, the breasts, the abdomen, and the thighs". The product selection allows one to choose between foreskin and non-foreskin cultures:

So it's quite possible that the researchers did use foreskin cells, but also possible that they didn't. The body of the ArsTechnica article is consistent with that: it just says that the cells were "from either juvenile foreskin or different skin locations from adult donors".

The only place that asserts that the cells definitely did come from foreskin is the sub-header. I'd guess it was written by an editor who glanced through the article, saw "foreskin", and latched onto that as a clickbaity aspect without stopping to make sure they were accurately summarising the story.

As Wiki summarises it,
