Long VS Short stories

It's been several months now since I brought this up.

In that time I've posted several more stories, including quite a few now in a continuing series.

I fully understand why many of you prefer to write an entire story, start to finish, before publishing.

But I'm not REALLY an author. I'm an amateur writer with some fun ideas and just enough grasp of the language to tell them.

Sometimes, I'll write a story and feel it's complete, then come up with an idea to continue and write another part.

My Jenna series I've intentionally set up and continued as an open ended story telling the adventures of those characters on a Chapter by Chapter basis.

If I waited until I wrote an entire novel length story before publishing anything, I'd have nothing published LOL.

I'm a half decent short story teller, nothing more really. I have a few ideas for really long, complex stories, but don't yet have the skills or patience to write them.

One of them I tinker with from time to time, but at the rate I'm going it might take years to publish 😆

I suppose the upside is there's a demand for both. Some enjoy very long stories published in one shot with a definitive ending, others enjoy short stories and series like mine with a new, easily digested adventure posted every few weeks.

So I do what's within my abilities and just have fun with it.

My readership is growing slowly, but I get a lot of positive feedback. And that's all I can hope for really.

As a READER personally i prefer longer stories of at least 2/3 pages. I like where you can get into the characters, have a history or a reason why things are happening and can build the story, shorter ones its over before you can get into it
100% this.

My favourite story THE PLAY has a first page with no sex and (if memory serves) the next page only has simulated sex but the build-up and the pay-off are fantastic.

I lean toward novels both as a reader and a writer.
I agree with this as a reader. If your story is four thousand words long, that's fine with me. If your short story is 90000 words long, that's also fine. As long as I'm interested while I'm reading, and the story has my attention, I don't concern myself with its length. I've been on here and read stories that were 6 pages, giving up a third of the way into the second page. I've also read stories all the way through that were 10 lit pages long. So I guess it just depends on how engaging the story is.

What’re the two words I’m looking for here? “Oh” and “puh-lease”

You’re an author. Sorry. ;-)

Lol okay, fine. But I'm still an amateur one. And I'm perfectly okay with that.

Short stories are best. After about page 6 it is normally time to stop.

These stories with titles like "losing my virginity ch.91" are stories that have gone on too long.

I'm curious as to whether you, as a READER, prefer longer or shorter stories.

I've tried to keep my stories shorter, even if it's a multiple chapter story. My thoughts are it's easier for the average reader (including myself) to digest a story in short chunks as opposed to one long sitting.

I'm currently working on a new story, one I have a beginning, middle and end to, bit can't decide if I wanna break it up into chapters or publish it as one long story.
I prefer shorter stories to read.
You can always break a long story into chapters to post.
