Hey peeps.

I have a long (76k word) romance story between a young woman and her older neighbour. It is predominantly about how he teaches her to smoke, whilst they fall in love, and she gets terribly addicted to cigarettes.

Should I keep with putting my work in fetish as a safe bet...or could this one go into romance?

What do you think?

A better "catch-all" for a story of that length might be Novels and Novellas. Romance would probably work for you as well, so it's your call.

I think that posting it as a fetish story might draw the ire of readers who don't consider smoking a fetish.

Of course anything becomes a fetish if it becomes a compulsion.

If the girl just likes a cancer stick after sex, that’s likely not fetish. If on the other hand smoking becomes an integral, important part of sex for her, then it likely is. Taking it further, if the story combines smoking and sex in equal measures, with tobacco given equal weight to copulation, then if is almost certainly fetish.

Check out how many porn sites include ‘smoking’ as a tag.

I would say any of the three categories suggested above would work. I would note that (no judgement) many people now consider smoking distinctly nonerotic, often downright distasteful. You might be right in saying that some might be offended by calling smoking a fetish, but I suspect a lot more would find a story with a lot of smoking less than romantic. You pays your money, you takes your chances.

Hey @TarnishedPenny I totally agree. All my work is normally smoking fetish based. I was just thinking of attempting to put it somewhere else :)
I think I will stick it in fetish where its "safe".

If the focus of the story is sexualised smoking, I'd say stay with Fetish. If you took the cigarettes away, would you still have a story? Sounds like you wouldn't, so other categories wouldn't work.

Thanks all, its now uploaded to Fetish... we shall see what happens in 2-3 days time when its published!

Rule 34, Raven - If it exists, somebody out there finds it sexually arousing. Check out how many porn sites have smoking as a tag.

It has now made me start to wonder what other things are sexualized. (And do I even want to know lol.)

*Starts to google "Sex tags: Shopping; Line dancing; Bacon"*
(I am just kidding ... no way am I going to Google those things lol.)

Unfortunately there is a (very small) percentage of the population who get turned on by pretty woman smoking.
There is a spread from just a girl enjoying a cigarette to the even smaller percentage of 'Darksiders" who love the damage done.

So yes, many of my stories sexualize smoking!

I personally like this one - the house makes the protagonist smoke...

It involves the mouth, sucking and blowing, and daintily holding something with just two fingers. There's the lighting of the cigarette and possible furtive contact, or passing on a cigarette - the indirect contact of mouths. Of course it can be sexualised. And there is the addictive aspect. I'm an ex-smoker (stopped about ten years ago) and just thinking of it like this gives me again a little craving for a cigarette.

Totally. Here's a brief excerpt from my story A Filthy Fucking Smoking Trash Cunt Whore (fret not - the title is ironic, as you will find if you read it):

This particular Monday morning, Tracy got up extra early because she had a job interview to go to. Actually, she got up early because she was desperate for a cigarette, and she knew that there was a chance she might tiptoe outside, sneak a smoke, and then have a shower before Charlie woke up. She left him asleep in bed, put her dressing-gown on over her nightie, retrieved her packet of cigarettes and lighter from her handbag, and made her way downstairs and onto the back patio. She dangled a Marlboro Lights 100 between her lips, flicked the lighter, and felt her lungs fill with that glorious first-of-the-morning cloud of acrid smoke. Her lungs starved of nicotine after a whole night without, she didn't bother to remove her cigarette from her lips to exhale, instead taking her favourite deep hands-free double-pump, no, a triple-pump -- uh, no, make that a quad -- until she felt that wonderful light-headed relief begin to take hold. Clouds of smoke poured luxuriantly from her nostrils as she clasped her cigarette firmly between her lips, the ash-end glowing bright with each drag from her needy lungs. "Oh fuck, that's good!" she muttered to herself, making the cigarette jiggle up and down between her lips, as she felt her body being slowly suffused with that nicotine-induced pleasure she loved so much.
"Like when you really need a piss, and at last you get to have one," she had tried to explain to Charlie -- the closest comparison she could think of for a non-smoker. But she knew that that was a poor metaphor. Because smoking was like nothing else on earth. It was the centre of her being, it was the greatest delight of her life -- yes, even more than fucking -- which she knew Charlie would never understand.
