Long pending issues?

I just wondered if there is a site issue with approving stories?

I wrote a new story weeks ago and posted it, but it was pending for nearly three weeks. I deleted that one thinking there might be issues? I uploaded it again, and now another two weeks and still pending.

It usually takes three days to either get published or returned for editing.

I want to add more chapters to this new story and my older ones, but this issue is putting me off if they won't get past the pending status.

That's unusual. Have you been copy/pasting your story in the story text field, or have you been uploading a file?
If you've been uploading a file, that could take weeks. Pasting it in the story text field would have it published in 2-3 days.
If you have been copy/pasting it, then something unusual is going on and you should contact the administrators.

....

Should probably add that once you have submitted it, you aren't allowed to fiddle with it at all, else it gets placed at the back of the queue.

Must be a new problem. I upload, and my last upload - a month ago - was approved in four days. I have two in the queue right now and was expecting similar.

Fingers crossed - I have two more almost ready and three others in the works. It would suck big-time if all this output is for naught, or delayed until next year.

Submitting a story as a doc file adds no time to the story being posted to the site. I know this from submitting stories in that format for years and years.

Do you get the story showing in the pending part of your home page under stories" If you do then you will need to PM Laurel the person who checks all submissions to see if there is a problem. She is the only one who can help you.

Coincidence, it's now been accepted.

Thanks for the comments, not sure if it is a coincidence or not, but I have just seen my new story has been published.

Did you get your other stories published like mentioned in your above comment? As for mine, I deleted and uploaded it again just before Christmas, still pending. I even emailed the moderator on her a couple of weeks ago, no reply. Very disappointing since I have gotten into writing these days.

Most problems of this sort have turned out to be a failure of actually submitting a story--getting pitched into the draft folder rather than pushing that last submit button. No matter of deleting and redoing this again is going to help. Check to make sure you actually submitted it.

On "emailed the moderator." There's only one submissions editor and "moderators" are for the discussion board side, not the story side. The submissions editor, Laurel, does not open emails. Contact to her has to be via the Private Message (PM) system posters have to turn on through the "User CP" (top left of this page), which, when activated, will show at the top right of this page.

The most likely reason for these "long delay" instances is not that the story is sitting in pending but that it and emails never have gone anywhere.

Welllllll... things got messed-up shortly after I posted that. There was a glitch in the system, and the bigger story vanished, with somebody else's posted under my title and byline. The second story was rejected, with good reason: I had unwittingly violated a guideline. I didn't resubmit and asked for removal.

The larger, more important story was fixed within a day. I think the whole process took a week, but like I said things were messed-up so the experience can't be used as any type of indicator for anything. Sorry.

My last story was submitted on the 19th and posted on the 20th of this month.

Now the one before that was submitted on the 13th but didn't post until the 20th.

It had been a long time since my last submission, well except for the one that was rejected.

My latest was submitted on the 18th and still waiting.

In the FAQ it does say 3-7 days. So not complaining.

Hey ho.

My 4th attempt was posted on the 22nd December 2021, still pending.

Are you sure you are really "posting"? Submitting for publication is a two-step process. There's a "Save Draft" button and then a "Preview&Publish" on the "new works" submission page. "Save Draft" publishes nothing, it just stores changes to your work.

"Preview&Publish" is followed by another page confirming your request for publication. I haven't uploaded in several weeks so I don't recall the fine details, but it's my understanding that that final confirmation trips-up noobs on occasion. Also - faded memory here - the "Pending" flag may appear on submissions that have not had that final confirmation, the "pending" applying to an action needed from you.

Again, it's been a while. Others should jump in here to correct me where necessary.

You fail to say whether you tried what's already been advised--for you specifically. Chances are high that you didn't really get the story submitted. The site can't process what hasn't been delivered to them.

No further action is required by the author once the story appears on the "pending" list. In fact, if you change anything in the submission form after it appears in "pending," then it will delay the publication. The story, once on the "pending" list, is awaiting action by Laurel -- either accepting it or returning it. Once accepted you're given a publication date, but the story remains on the "pending" list awaiting publication.

If you've successfully submitted a story, then the system notifies you immediately that you succeeded. Also, a permanent notice appears in your "My Activity" list that you have successfully submitted the story. If the "success" announcement doesn't appear, and if there's no success notification in your "My Activity" list, then the story hasn't been submitted.

I have a poem that's been pending since the 11th. My Leinyere story went in and was posted well after it, and another poem I uploaded the day before is also live.

That took a while, so I was wondering if these slower categories only get processed every couple of weeks.

I have resubmitted my long story.

Lets see if second time around it gets posted.

If not, I will copy and paste it into the box.

I've had a story edit submitted and has a pending date of 01/20/2022 for many days now. I've sent two PM's to Laurel and still no response / movement on the edit. So it's four days past the pending publication date? Any thoughts / advice?

I submitted a story edit on the tenth and it hung in the queue until today (two weeks) so I am guessing it is just a long backlog these days.

Mine also went live today. No doubt a big waiting list of new stories. Despite having two people review the story, there were still some issues that many comments mentioned. Hopefully, with the help of some of the comments, I've now found all the issues and can unburden myself from this story! Sad thing is; It is one of my favorite stories I've written and the issues sort of turned it into burden.

I think a big public thank-you to Laurel and the other elves that help is in order ~ Happy Valentine's Day! (when it finally gets here ;) )

I have now been waiting since the 24th of Jan for my latest story to be published.

I am intrigued to whether if will now be returned or published...the wait goes on!

Does it have a future date on it? Mine is in 'pending' but has a date of tomorrow as the even I entered it in does not start till tomorrow. The 750 word contest starts Feb 1st.

Nope just the greyed out date of when I uploaded it.

I am just expecting it to be returned at any moment now.

The longer it takes, the more likely to be rejected.

That's my theory anyway :)

I am pleased to say "Smoking Paradise Island" will be published tomorrow- lets see if the peeps who hang out in the fetish area enjoy it or not!
