Okay, okay...post on Kid's threads. Call him an asshole if it makes you feel better, and he'll keep laughing his ass off. I don't blame him anymore. He's a dope, but not the only one.

I've posted a hundred threads in the last week on everything from games shows to personal ads, thinking that if we all stopped bitching about the trolls and had something other to talk about, we would. But, apparently, you all want the trolls. Deb wants to turn rage red, Wizard wants to eat his popcorn -- you all like it when a good pissing contest comes around. You prefer the troll threads. You do.

How many of you keep coming back here waiting for me to wrestle with Deb, or PC with Kid, or desperately click around hoping someone calls someone else a "cunt"?

So, enough with the "Please can we all be friends and not bring this up and I'm so bored with this whole thing" posts already. Confess -- you like watching the shit get stirred, and have no interest in doing the one and only thing that solves the problem -- ignoring it.

I give up, with no animosity whatsoever. I admit I like watching, and participating, in a good fight too. Enjoy.
Just spare us the outrage.

I agree with DCL that however much people say they hate the trolls and the idiots, deep down they enjoy it. Where else can you call people awful names and work yourself into a frenzy without any real life consequences?

Personally, I don't enter the "troll" threads anymore. I do prefer your topics, DCL, or a scientific discussion, or a debate about whether or not Todd should be able to eat Pizza Hut out of business. But if people get their rocks off slinging insults, who am I to stop them?

Hey, DCL. What the heck does it look like I've been doing? Anyway, I happen to think you're right. It's like a car accident on the freeway. You know it's horrible, but you still slow down and look. (in the case of arkies, you STOP and look)

My solution? Less time spent here. I mean, if people can't exhibit some maturity, why spend time with them? So. No jumping up and down, snuggling, or hugs for me. Just a quiet, slow fading away in favor of more interesting things.

I read the troll threads because it reveals a lot about the people who post there, but I prefer involving myself in the threads with actual substance. Especially legal topics and hockey. And D.C.!

I, am here, looking for advice on how to repair a my deck gate. I wrote to Mr. Vila, who after several of my emails, has placed one of those "don't let nitengale's email get through" thingies on his mailbox. No biggie, DCL. I'm in a mood to mildly poke somebody right now, and you presented yourself. Anyway, I'm not totally innocent. I've done a bit of voyeurism. But it's a beautiful day today, and I have a good book to read, so there are plenty of distractions.

I'm entering my last week of work, so all bets are off next Wed.

I'm here for the entertainment and sometimes that involves observing kids at play or playing myself if the mood strikes me. No doubt certain characters in these little dramas play predictable parts, but its somehow comforting to know that Deb will rage and MP will lecture, while various and sundry participants dart in between the grownups knocking over chairs and spilling drinks on everyone. It reminds me of picnics at grandma's house when I locked all the doors and hid the key.

If there's something interesting to talk about I'm happy to participate in those threads as well. There seems to be plenty of variety here, something for everybody. And navel gazing seems to be one of the many preoccupations on the board. Why are we doing what we're doing and why can't we change it?

What a lovely diversion from the rest of life.

And if you notice, with KidRock I usually never waste more than a word or two on him. I actually think Kidrock is kind of witty in a warped assholian sort of way. WoodyV is a different story...

They're not going anywhere, so we might at least have fun at their expense. All of your sanctimonious bullshit about ignoring them is just so much hot air. It's like yelling at the crowd gathered in front of the department store during the L.A. riots, and yelling "Don't loot this store...please!" Yeah...right. You know SOMEBODY is always going to respond.

So if YOU want to ignore them, have at it, like it will do any good. I'm gonna keep having fun, you goddamn party-pooper.

I DO enjoy the Troll Wars - I fully admit that I have a perverse side that loves watching people here bitching, snapping, snarling and being utterly despicable to each other. SOME OF THE TIME. But after a while - in the same way as watching three Jerry Springers back-to-back - it just drains my energy and I want to switch channels and watch Todd's Creationist Hour on the public access channel, or an interesting documentary about the history of the written word.

We probably shouldn't feel too bad about our blood-lust. The Romans sat watching thousands of slaves, lions and Christians literally hacking and chewing each other to bits several times a week in the amphitheatres for over 800 years. (You can tell I've been watching 'The Making Of Gladiator')

If a Troll is being blatantly cruel and hurtful to someone who's already feeling bad about something in their life it really pisses me off. But I do tend to ignore them rather than snap at them in the hope that if nobody stokes their ego they'll just bugger off to another strand.

Other times, on other strands (when they're just being generally obnoxious) it's just too much fun to ignore and I join in, lobbing silly jibes at them from the trenches.

Ask almost anyone here about me. I've posted a thousand opinions on a few hundred threads. I bet you've done the same.

Do you think people remember our favorite movies? Songs? Restaurants?

No. But they'll remember I fought with Ambro the first month I was here. They'll remember the bitch fight I had with *bratcat* or the rather ugly confrontation with Xander.

There are only a few people here that are genuinely interested in the conversation. Those who are pretty much make up the cast of characters I adore. The rest want to flit, flirt, have their melodramatic episodes and watch the fights. There's nothing wrong with that...except, as you mentioned, the hypocritical outrage that always seems touted from the rafters about it. And you've gotten into it with the best of 'em, and the worst of ‘em, Dix.

Human nature I suppose.

Trolls will be trolls, spats will be spats. But, I also think there's enough people here making it funny and interesting. The strife really only wins out if you let it. Amid all that, I manage to laugh a hell of a lot when I come here.

But, then, I'm long-winded and rather twisted.

Now, shut up and figure out a way we can all play Risk together online...

For what it's worth, I don't think PC has never been angry at a troll. It's not his nature. He has been irritated legitimately ONCE and it was over a serious thread about military history. That's the only time I've seem him lose his humor.

He's one of those rare people who can just chuckle and exchange insults and get a kick out of it. So it amuses the trolls? Big hairy deal. It amuses him, too.
