Logan

*looks at Pookie's clips*

If there was a series called Logan, there would have been room, for such moments.

The movie was "just right."

There's also a missing deleted scene with Caliban. It shows him wounded after the explosion and crawling away from the burning truck, with Logan and Laura pausing to look back at him as he dies. They don't bother to load him in the back of the pickup with Charlie's body though .... which is why I think it eventually wasn't included ... along with pointing out the already obvious that he died.

The adamantium fused to his bones was slowly poisoning him and his healing abilities couldn't keep up. That's what I thought, anyway. But I could be wrong.

My understanding was that his healing ability was to eventually fade as he got older. So the adamantium would eventually kill him. Without the adamantium, he still would have eventually died an old man from something.

I can't stand it when movies deviate from canon. Love Star Trek but the alternate universe trick as a tool for a redux retcon is a bit lame. Hated when they killed Frigga in Thor.

Retcons and redux for the money not for the sake of the storyline. Just gives them an excuse to come out with a new movie. Goes hand in hand with butchering a great book for the sake of the simpler minds which just watch TV.

When a friend and I (both of us old school fans of TOS) went to the 1st reboot, I totally prepared to criticize it, but kept an open mind. J.J. Abrams version was simply wonderful. They nailed the original characters perfectly. I think the new Bones and Scotty were even better, if possible. The younger Spock was a superb continuation of Spock Prime. Chris Pines' young Kirk and the kid in the car scene was more along the lines of what I thought Kirk should have been like prior to being Captain.

I believe you're thinking about Star Trek. The original cast was either dead or too old to carry on. I like the excuse in this case. The reboot has been excellent so far, IMO.

Edited to add: Chris Pine. Nuf said.

There was no other way to continue the franchise. It paved the way for an alternate Star Trek and maybe some future spinoffs. Ideas and spinoffs based upon the original were simply running too dry to live up to its' own standards. Personally, I did like the 'Enterprise' as a filler to explain Star Trek transition into TOS, but it's considered a failed series.

my apologies for nerding it up, but if you went by the comic book rules that were in play when i was a kid logan should've died in the movies when magneto filled him full of rebar and cement and chucked him into the potomac.

and he always would've died of old age. he's not supposed to be an imortal god. he's just a dude who heals really fast. and, yes, in comics the adamantium fucks with his healing factor. hell, if i remember correctly, i think there was a story line where it even suppressed his mutation, but that was dumb.

not that it matters, of course. as much as i love this comic book shit it isn't meant to make perfect sense. it's just silly, fantastical bullshit with bright colors and impossible body proportions.

except for kitty pryde. she was always pretty normal looking. she didn't even have back breaking boobs. truly a rarity in the world of comics.

and speaking of her if they're really going to include lockheed in the new mutants without kitty pryde i'm gonna be fucking pissed. stop fucking with kitty pryde, you stupid ass movies.

I didn't read many X-Men or Wolverine comics growing up. Are there 2 version of Wolverine? Or did the character change when he was revived via Hugh Jackman?

I was more into Batman, Captain America, Spider-Man, and the Avengers stuff when I was kid.

Ah. You found it.
*watches both of Pookie's clips*

Hmmm...
Will have to watch Logan, again. So, I can compare.

(She is just too adorably enthusiastic. Love the clear look at the weapons. If I had seen it at the theatre, it would have been made plain. As it is, just following the battle sequences, is enough to keep track of.)

Great movie...great enough that I wouldn't be surprised by an Oscar nomination or two.

One!

'Logan' just did something no other superhero movie has ever done at the Oscars

The latest Wolverine movie just accomplished something no other superhero movie has ever been able to do.

2017's "Logan" landed an Oscar nomination Tuesday morning for best adapted screenplay.

How big of a deal is that?

Well, superhero movies usually don't get much love at all at the big awards shows. If you take a look at the Oscar nominations superhero movies have received in the past, it's usually for more technical awards. "Suicide Squad" won best hairstyling and makeup in 2017 and "Spider-Man 2" won best achievement in visual effects.

Only 2008's "The Dark Knight" landed a best actor in a supporting role win posthumously for Heath Ledger's gripping performance as the Joker.

The last time any sort of superhero movie was nominated for its screenplay at the Oscars was Disney/Pixar's 2004 animated feature "The Incredibles." Director Brad Bird received a nod for best original screenplay.

Before you start jumping for joy and preparing yourselves for a more superhero-friendly Academy in the future, sit tight. It's worth noting that "Logan" may be the most un-superhero-feeling superhero movie we've seen in a long time and that may be why it played so well with Academy voters.

How Patrick Stewart didnt get a nod for supporting actor is beyond me.
Self important fufu crap is more "oscar worthy", I guess.

adapted screenplay? alright then. i mean, it's better than that silly shit they gave suicide squad, but meh.

also, it's up against the disaster artist, a movie about a movie. there's nothing those fuckers like more than a good, old fashioned circle jerk.

Their farts are artsy. That's almost something. *shrugs*

Although he deserved it, i knew best actor nom wasn't going to happen for Hugh. Patrick seriously deserved a nom for supporting actor, and I held out some hope for him. :(

i'll never understand why. i'm honestly surprised they even threw them a bone of lower tier nomination given their clear prejudice.

but whatever. i hate the awards show scene. the golden globes are corrupt, the academy loves the smell of its own farts and my cynicism won't even allow to me to enjoy them for the visuals of attractive women in nice dresses. it just doesn't work for me.

I feel exacrly the same. Hugh did the best job Ive seen any actor do this year. I knew he would not get nominated because rhe academy looks down their nose at comic book movies even though comic book flicks are the only rhing keeping the movie industry afloat anymore. Everything else is television.I hopes given Patrick Stewart's advanced age that perhaps they would at least toss him the Sean Connery nod, but nooooo!

Worthless fucking hacks.

the last jedi pulled in over a billion.

as did beauty and the beast.

that's number one and number at the box office this year.

logan was 11th domestically which is just weird. it made less than justice league and despicable me 3. that's just fucking wrong.

wonder woman won the comic book money wars, though. i totally get that even though i couldn't tell you if it's really a good movie because every time gal gadot came on screen my mind went blank and i started feeling all tingly in my nether regions.

Logan was rated R is the reason it made less. Not sure where it ranked among those, but likely at the top. I'm too lazy to look this morning.
