Locked out of Literotica?

At Literotica I've made several friends, who are also authors on Lit. One of them has told me she cannot log onto the site, that her login is grayed out. She has tried the obvious things: rebooting her computer, trying on a friend's computer, trying different browsers, etc. She can access stories, and leave anonymous comments, but cannot get onto Lit using her own identity.

She has also tried, of course, writing to the Literotica gods, but has yet to receive a response. Does anyone here, at the authors' hangout, have an idea what's happening and how to resolve it? I'm stumped.

Thank you, JB Edwards

The only way would be to maybe use your account to send Laurel a PM to see what the problem is.

I'm not sure we have enough information to say much. How does she usually log in? There have been recent changes to the login process that affects some people but not others.

It's unlikely that she's been locked out. She would have to enter her username/password and then get a failure notice in order for it to be some kind of lock-out. Conceivably, her IP could be blocked, but if she also can't log in using her friend's computer (presumably, on a different IP) then it's not a block on her IP.

The only time I see my username grayed out is before the login page is fully loaded. Is the login page loading completely? Is she depending on her username/password stored on her computer, or provided by the site? Has she tried typing in her username and password?

Define gray

Define gray?

I’m bet the neo-modern color scheme and its overuse of gray is the issue. Have her just click even if it looks gray then proceed.

If you have zoom and if they’re able to install that, and share their screen you could help that way too. I bet it’s a question of guidance. If you are on phone number terms, maybe a video chat and she points her camera at her screen.

What NotWise said. I would suggest walking her through the process in a detailed, step by step way so it is crystal clear exactly what is happening, where. Go URL by URL and identify exactly where the dialogue boxes are on the screen. Usually when people raise these issues there is some step that they are missing and they don't realize it. I don't see how someone would be locked out. Is it possible she did something via her browser or security software that blocked access? Although if that were the case presumably she wouldn't be able to see the site at all.

Hi NotWise (big misnomer!). Here is the reply from my friend, with more information!

Hi JB,

Thanks for your help. Feel free to send this with my answer.

The only time I see my username grayed out is before the login page is fully loaded.
The log in page doesn’t fully load. There is a little thing which goes back and forth in the middle of the screen, which I guess is an indication it is trying to load. I have left it for 10 minutes or more on several occasions, but it doesn’t fully load, although when I scrolled down I managed to type a message after clicking on “report a problem” bottom right. Then it comes up with SUBMIT YOUR FEEDBACK. I have done that in the boxes provided, twice, along with my email address and the problem. I enter the security code and submit it, but haven’t heard anything back.

Is she depending on her username/password stored on her computer, or provided by the site?
It usually appears after the page has loaded.

Has she tried typing in her username and password?
It wont let me without the page being fully loaded. I have tried clicking on the boxes to enter my name, but it won’t let me, I guess because the page hasn’t loaded.

Please tell, NotWise thank you. (I agree! ~~ JB)

Just a suggestion. Have her clear her cache and try again.

In addition to what TxRad said, clear the cache, including specifically any Lit cookies, turn off any auto-fill instructions, turn off the computer, and restart it.

Clearing the cache, as Tx suggested, can't hurt. I sometimes reload the login page if it seems to be stuck on something. The only other thing I'd suggest is to wait longer, or go to the tech support page here and see if Manu or other more tech-savvy people might help.

What device is she using? Phone, tablet, computer? App or program? Me? I'd follow everything NW said and try a different browser.

Have her login on the author side of the site. It's a different process but uses the same name and password combination.

All good advice. as a sanity check to avoid ambiguity, provide these exact urls to try

https://literotica.com/authenticate/login?returnTo=https://literotica.com/beta/stories/

https://forum.literotica.com/ (Forum side, Login top right)

And finally, if the problem still occurs, try going here, even if it seemed like logging in failed: if they see their account, they’re in. Or try logging in again. https://www.literotica.com/my/#/activity/all

Repeat, on her phone. (Or her computer if all this was on her phone)

Also, only if you all are like this (holding two fingers together), you try her account. Or hold a zoom meeting with screen share.

I don't know what that means! Could you explain, please? Thanks, JB

Sorry, there are two sides to the Lit website. There is the story side and the BB side. They both use a different login, yet is you login on the story side you are also logged in on the BB side. And you will remain logged in forever or until they do a server reset/reboot.

And it's been so long since I have had to login that I haven't a clue, but it looks like jsmiam has given you the scope of it.

if all else fails, get her userid and her email that she uses for Lit, and PM Laurel and ask her to reset the account.

Problem Solved!

Thanks to everyone for all of your wonderful suggestions concerning my friend's inability to get onto Literotica in her author status. As it turns out, the solution was to wait. She tried yesterday and it worked! She's back on, and will be writing more great stories soon.

So it's yet another manifestation of the old adage: Time heals all wounds.

Thanks again, JB Edwards
