Well Hello Folks;)
I got this question ya see...about frogs and lobsters...it goes like this. I have always heard the story that if you put a frog in a pan filled with cool water and put it on the stove and slowly heat the water you can cook the frog without it ever knowing it...however if you put a frog into a pan of hot water it will jump right out....with me so far? Now when we cook a lobster we always plunge it into boiling water....you know that this can not feel good to the old lobster! It would seem to me that the thing to do would be to put the lobster in a pan of cool water and heat it up like they say you can do with the frog slowly bringing the lobster to the point of being cooked without the shock and pain of sudden imersion in boiling water!!! What do you think? Does this make sense to you or do you think I got to much time on my hands. Its funny how the mind works ....but still I just was wondering if this might be better for the old lobster. Just one final thought, I really have to say that at some point I believe the frog would jump out of the water as it heats up, it seems that even a frog would sense when his temperature is reaching the point of discomfort:p

you mis understand I do not cook lobsters but this is what I have always heard is the way you do it...I believe this has got to be a pretty horrible thing for the lobster...so please do not plunge me in cause I do not follow this practice

At the risk of interrupting this Sybilfest,

I have seen lobsters cooked before ugggg they scream!! not fun I do not like to hear my food screaming before I eat it.

I hate this thread. I was hoping it never came back...

Stick a sharp knife into the back of the lobster before droping it to boiling water. That's how more humane chefs do it.

Never heard one scream, but I've heard them beat around in the pot. However, proper Lobster Cooking Procedure  Calls for the lobster to be put into boiling water, head first. Supposedly they die instantly.

Serve with melted butter. Yummm.

Actually I think it is air escaping from the carpace.

I think that putting them into cold water and then heating the water slowly to boiling would also not be very humane - and it would probably not produce a very edible lobster.

*looking at ceiling and wondering*

Are lobsters warm or cold blooded?

Poor fuckin lobsters.

Supposedly heating the water slowly puts the lobster to sleep, but no one knows.

Beefcake they taste the same.

Whoever said they scream, lol, no they do not. It's the sound of air escaping their shells.

Simple fact: There is no humane way to cook a lobster. You're either boiling it alive or you're ripping it apart alive. When you order lobster tails they rip them off a live lobster and put the still living torso in the fridge for other uses.

Eat it or don't, but don't fool yourself.

Well, who cares? We're at the top of the food chain.

They're at the bottom.

They taste good and they help the economy.

Butter, anyone?

I heard something about letting them soak in wine for a few hours before boiling? I usually just soak myself though.
