If you haven't heard, the UK government recently commissioned a report that said 'animals like lobsters, crabs and octopuses are sentient beings that feel pain, which serves as a step towards protecting the welfare of these species, '
Now, if you have been following the abortion debates in the States, one of the key points is that Pro Lifers say life begins at conception, and therefore abortions kill humans. Pro choice types say life does not begin until a fetus is viable (?).
Wondering if the protections to be applied to lobsters (full disclosure: sounds ridiculous to me)--based on lobsters feeling pain--will be used as an end around on the abortion debate. How does one say lobsters deserve welfare protections while a fetus does not?
