It's the perfect time to join "Loa Blood", a serious, dramatic super-hero story. Players' have had a really great time with this one, we've got a cool story gong, and new players are always welcome.
Returning writers, please post bios for current characters in this thread, and I'll start up the IC thread. Wheee!

It's an analagous, contemporary world. So there's police, pop-stars, slurpees, a violent history of racism and oppression, all the good stuff you know from our world, except the shapes of the continents is different, and the names of the countries, races, religions, etc. are all changed.
35 years ago, scientists discovered the bodies of giant (Godzilla-sized) aliens (Loa) buried under the antarctic ice. According to what's been deciphered of the aliens' records, they created the Earth, seeded it with life, and then left, leaving a dozen of their dead and a few impossibly huge buildings in the antarctic.
Religious people, particularly followers of the Wheel, are upset with the revelation that their version of history and creation has been proven false. Many of the new generation worship the Loa as gods.
Science has taken a great leap forward, as researchers studying the Loa Blood extracted from the alien site have discovered miracle medicines, non-polluting fuels, and other good things.
The catch is that anyone physically exposed to the Blood mutates. Usually they die. Sometimes they live, but are changed forever (like the guy with toasters for hands). Very rarely, they are Gifted with powerful superhuman abilities drawn from their own subconscious.
10 years ago, the nation of Locrir fell under control of a warmongering dictator.
5 years ago, a research station on Dracon Island exploded, exposing everyone on the island to the Blood, killing most of them. Many refugees were evacuated to nearby Bay City, and the island has been sealed off, left to the mutated monsters too insane and dangerous to evacuate.
4 years ago, Bay City was leveled in a super-battle between the murderous Crusher and the Coda "super-hero" Monolith. The Crusher was imprisoned on Dracon Island, and all the monsters on the island were sealed under a GAIA prototype force-field. During his rampage, the Crusher raped and impregnated Nia, who gave birth to twins Valous and Leos. Nia gave up the twins for adoption.
3 years ago, Monolith appeared again, in Bay City's ruins, to stop an army of invading Antmen. Monolith destroyed the Antmen, but created an earthquake that destroyed the city.
Leos was sold into a Cold Blood fighting pit, but rescued and raised by GAIA.
Valous was kidnapped by agents of the Pyramid, and was imprisoned in Amun.
A few days ago, Valous' astral form escaped from the Pyramid, although her body is still imprisoned there.
Nia has been training with Cold Blood ninja. She just discovered that Valous was kidnapped from her adopted parents.

New characters are welcome. Characters can be Gifted (people with superpowers), but shouldn't be too powerful. Think Daredevil power level. Most of them will be Dracon Island refugees.
Remember, lots of mutations are pretty useless. I'd love to see a character with a stupid toaster-hands or telepathy-with-fish kind of power, if you're prepared to deal with it in a serious way.
High-tech types are also okay, including robots, cyborgs, gadgeteers, etc.
Normal human characters are totally encouraged. Anything, rock stars, politicians, cops, street kids, gangsters, reporters, doctors, scientists, taxi drivers, athletes, priests, old ladies, whatever.
I can't stress enough that while this is a super-hero story, starting characters are not super-heroes yet. You're just a person who may have recently aquired super-powers, but you shouldn't have any kind of reputation yet. And so far there's very few code-names and no capes.
Glossary

Val: Small country north of Argo. known for its martial arts. Worship hero gods different from the Loa or the Wheel. (Nia)
Weavers: Nomadic people who came to Svetla from the northern countries like Sejeala and Aralia. They have pale skin and red hair, and are known for their mysticism.
