Ask me if I care. ;) I'm not taking this class for the marks.

I would say the man is right, up to a point.

A person completely in harmony is not going to create. There's none of the frissions, the dichotomies that beg to be dealt with through the creative process. Doesn't mean the person is unhappy or not a good person, just that they're not likely to be creative.

On the other hand, a person completely out of harmony is not going to be very creative, or happy. We need anchors to the world in order to live.

As always, it's a balancing act. Too much harmony and you cease to exist as an individual. Too little and you're too far away from the world to act upon it. Both are required to be creative.

In my opinion.

Oh, I don't know.

A creative outlet is ESSENTIAL to my mental health. So, I can see myself painting or sculpting or sewing ... that type of creating ... while in harmony. I can't see myself being compelled to write prose or poetry in that state.

It's difficult for me to imagine such complete harmony, though. I can be (and am) in harmony with myself. Society and culture? Whoa. That's a toughie.

Oh, you can create, but you can't really be creative. You'll create cultural propaganda. Table settings and decorative art, things like that. Or the literary equivalent.

Holly Hobby.

This is probably a somewhat simplistic and logical slant on this.

"Necessity is the mother of invention"

Necessity = Need for harmony in an un-harmonous world

Invention = The end result of creativity

Yes, I think that if a man/woman were completely in harmony with his/her world, then the need for creativity is greatly deminished.

But then again, we write porn. Even when I've had plenty of sex, I still have fantasies that sometimes end up being written.

You can start from harmony. But you can't remain there. The process is by it's nature disharmonic. Because you change things. Creativity is to strike a dissonant tone within a state of harmony, and let everything else tune to you.
