Isn't it amazing how much little things are so important to us?

For me there are a couple of those little thing.

The first is a bracelet. Nothing special. It's Sterling Silver. A six strand braid, what my mother calls a Knights Braid.

The second is a Pocket watch. It was my great grandfathers.

The third is a sword my father made for me when I was 18 years old. It isn't fancy nor is it for display. It is a working sword.

The fourth and most important to me is a simple 10K gold band. This is my wedding band. It's not large and it isn't worth a lot on the open market but to me it is priceless. I can't think of the last time it has been off my left ring finger, hell I don't think I can remove it now. There are few things in my life worth more than this simple band.

How about you? What simple thing is worth more than you can think about?

I own a lot of stuff. But I have always thought that the only things I would try to save in a fire would be my clothes. They don't mean anything to me, it's just the only things that I really value.

That and my car.

In terms of material possessions; a mechanical coin bank that was my great-grandfathers, my parents wedding album, a box of pictures of my parents families, scrapbooks my wife has made about each of our many vacation trips, our own wedding album...

I also treasure seeing the sun rise, hearing a bird song, feeling the breeze on my face, walking in the surf, singing along with a CD...knowing there are those who cannot share these joys and how truly fortunate I really am. :)

The rifle my Dad gave me when I was 12 and the 10 Point Mule Deer rack it took 2 weeks later.

My life is full of precious "little things"

I have this picture that my daughter drew of me a few months ago, I asked her what I was doing and she said "crying". From that day I vowed to pay more attention to what I was doing with my grief. I keep that picture on my wall in my bedroom.

I have two 30-40 year-old cast iron skillets that I won't let anyone touch but me. They belonged to my maternal grandmother, the one I never met, the one that I look just like.

I also have this ring that is just HORRID, the design is bad, it's yellow gold, and I greatly dislike yellow gold, it's nothing that I'd normally wear but my maternal grandfather gave it to me and for as long as I'm alive it will have an honored place in my jewelry box.

I have a small collection of Matchbox cars that my son has decided are mine. Those are also in a treasured place. Of course I get yelled at if I try to race him with one of HIS cars and not my own. (It should be said the darn kid gave me only the slowest cars, he's no dummy). :)

Oh! And one last thing that I'm very protective of...my stainless steel knives. I literally growl if anyone gets near them, or tries to put one in the sink, and GOD FORBID, in the dishwasher. I've given everyone "THE" lecture about them. :D

Truly I have many, many more little things in my life, but those are just the few that have made me smile today.
