Opportunity. We all love when it comes knocking. But what about those times when it knocks and you aren't home? Maybe off chasing down another opportunity, maybe just fast asleep? Do you shrug your shoulders and say "oh well"?Do you try and recreate the conditions by which it appeared, this time vowing to be ready? Or do you chase it down, running as fast as you can to catch it?

Did the opportunity leave me a voicemail? Can I call it back? Just asking...

Me?? Sleep through a big opportunity???? Sheesh. Who would do that:rolleyes:
I chase opportunity only as much as being a mama allows....

I just wish opportunity had an advance notification system. I know, I know, what fun is that, but I'm sure I could make up for any lost spontaneity that might be embedded in said opportunity.

I'm not an opportunist. I don't view life as a series of opportunities to either be seized or missed.

For me, life is a series of divinely-timed events, and whatever is meant to be will always be. That's one of the things that makes it so beautiful.

Big opportunities? That shit is easy. Day to day bullshit? Fucking Herculean.

Thinking opportunity needs something similar to the tornado warning system.

Doppler radar has indicated some play activity for Saturday evening. Because of ongoing chit-chat for months on end and suscessful play dates in the past, this storm is 100% likely. Please prepare self to be fully satisfied and drift off to sleep completely drained (in more way then one) smiling.

I'll start working on this project immediately.

Today feels like one of those days where my head is in a thousand different places all at once. Usually I can compartmentalize and go through the day or be of a singular focus if that's what is needed. Today seems like neither one of those kinds of days. So tell me denizens of this fair thread, when you know you're off your usual game, just not quite yourself, do you accept it for the day and make the most, do you fight and claw to get the day back, or do you just get through it, making a list and crossing stuff off?

It depends why I'm off my game. If something has happened and it's expected to throw my day off (illness, family drama, 800 other items added to my day etc) I charge through . If it's more personal in nature, as in, I can't focus because he has me in a tizzy,I still charge through in personal torture. ...but with a list...because I'm done ;)
Seriously though. ..short answer..it depends.

I don't really expect days to be predictable, perhaps a side effect of the work that I do. Because of that, it is an ever-changing game. I'm likely to appreciate an off day instead of seeing it as something to overcome. Of course, the people who need to tolerate my shift might not appreciate it as much as I do.

I'm kinda with Ruby on this one. I can adapt easily to most of the things that can throw off my day. And I'm usually very good at shutting off my personal life stuff when I'm at work and vice versa.

But every once in awhile there's something that happens that will not allow me to balance - it is usually a someone, not a something - and then I just do what I can to get through the day.

Luckily, that doesn't happen often. And making a list and crossing things off of it ALWAYS helps. In fact, I'm off to update my things-to-do-this-week list now. :D

I'm especially on board with this last point. If I don't have a list, nothing gets done. I'm too scatterbrained.

I fall in the relax and make the most of the day category. From what I've seen you can rail against the rain, but it doesn't make the rain stop.

The mind plays by a different set of rules, strumming her drum, composing the offbeat lyrics and singing to the minions who organize stress and chaos. Most times I'm able to tune out the dreadful tune she plays. But there are times I'm forced to sit and listen to the god awful opus. It's always temporary, the moments like these. There is no clawing and grasping to get back what has been lost, but only to focus and ride out the storm.

SM brings up a good point, the mind does play by a different set of rules, and I would add that no two sets of rules are alike. It's amazing that in how different we all are, we are also so similar. That said, I think it's both the sameness and the differences that make it both hard and easy to understand each other. So whether this ramble makes perfect sense or doesn't, it's a great example of our minds at work.

So what rules does your mind go by? Mine would be something like: be compassionate first, be logical when compassion isn't working, try to understand before all else, and always be open to new ideas.

He's been a ghost around here as of late, apparently he and his junk are occupied elsewhere.

were you going for ambiguity on this, or does that just come naturally to you?
