Well, that was not how I envisioned yesterday going
I tend to project how I think the day is going to unfold. Not necessarily with particular expectations, but just kind of a "plan for the day" and then it's usually off plan by about 8am every morning.
I know many let their day just happen, or say they do. But I think we all have a basic plan for the day. Even no plan is a plan.
How important is your plan to you? Will you fight to keep it in place? Will you let it go, noting the deviation in your head? Or are you one that requires the plan be followed?
I saw this question earlier and didn't respond, but it's stuck in my head all morning so I guess that's a sign I should probably post on it...
This pretty much describes the majority of my days - I rarely get accomplished everything that I want to, nor does it go how I have mapped out. Yes, every week has a general plan, and each day has a map of where and when. Before I'm done with my coffee, something has derailed me.
Yes, there are color codes pens and highlighters involved....but I know what the absolute priorities are, and if it takes me marking out my schedule and hiding on another floor to get it done, I will. It never ceases to amaze me that my IM status can say "Busy" or "DND", and people come to my desk and ask me questions. Then they lead with "Do you have a minute"? I used to be nice, now I just respond with, "Is someone going to die or get injured? Is our production going to stop? Will this land on the president's desk or in the news?". Oh, it's not one of those three? Then you can send me a frigging email and we can discuss later.
So yeah, I have a plan and know my priorities. I build time into my schedule for the inevitable curve-ball that will come my way, but I also note WHO my timewasters come from (i.e. pink highlighter).
