Curious as to how the room defines being "single"? Can you be in a long term committed relationship, not married, and still call yourself "single"? I guess what the question really boils down to is the term "single" specifically connected to marital status?

Hmm no. To me, single means available or unattached. You can be dating and single, but once you enter that long term commitment (that being the operative word for me), you’re only single on that tax form . Now... it’s not a committed relationship or an open relationship... yer single.

No, it is not specifically connected to marital status. Although I think that is a convenient definition for some devious devils.

I think single means single--no relationship whatsoever. I would even go so far as to say you're temporarily not single while on a date with someone, then at the end of the date you're single again, unless it went well.

I disagree, simply because there is no vested interest in the person other than getting to know him / her better. Third date? Fourth? Maybe so, but not a first.
