3) I think it is the amount of brain-time involved which makes the difference. An interest is just that, one thinks about it once in a while. An activity too. Example: I am not planning my walks or bike rides for days in advance, the idea pops up when the weather is nice, I have time or can combine it with something I have to do, like riding my bicycle to shops further away or taking a detour along the lake and shop where I usually shop. I often take walks or ride my bicycle but it is not a hobby. Now for crocheting I can spend hours, days, even weeks planning the next project, decide for whom it will be, what this person would like, what color(s) I will use, which pattern, how big it will be and so on.

It's a diversion.

I have many skills. I think I'd like to master a bonesaw though. Or maybe a rib spreader.

When you become so proficient at it, that you can do it without thinking too hard.

Nope. I popin and out too sporadically it's somewhat ridiculous.

2) if you could acquire and skill or magically had sufficient time, what new hobby would you like to start?
Sounds crazy, but I'd love to weld better and create huge metal sculptures. I learned the basics in a sculpture class and really enjoyed it.

Time for sure and money.
 
This has stayed remarkably in topic today. Pretty impressive now I realized I just cursed everything so y'all can blame me.

1. Lit isn't a hobby for me at least I don't consider it to be. Time spent here is inconsistent and dependent upon how much free time I actually have.

2. I discovered early on that I absolutely had no artistic talent, particularly in sketching or drawing. I could color with the best of them, but I just can't draw anything to save my life. To answer this question, I'd love to learn how to draw.

I'd like to perfect my cupcake recipe. With almost no copious free time and most of that spent doing other things, it has gone by the wayside. Is that a hobby? I suppose since I spend an awful lot of time dreaming about the perfect cupcake. *grin*

3. An interest turns into a hobby for me when I want to be more than proficient at it. I realize that requires time, effort and lots of it.
 
As a follow on to yesterday (yes I'm going to milk this dry ;) ) outside of family and personal relationships is there something you participate in that should a life change be required to maintain it, you would not hesitate in making that change?
 
Yesterday - someone said Lit is more a past time than a hobby and I agree. My hobbies are outdoor pursuits. If I could gain a skill, I'd like to be able to play the harmonica.

Today - Fishing and hunting. If I had to change significantly to be able to keep doing it I certainly would!

And yes, to answer Papa C's question. Music and I play racquetball. Either of those things are things for which I would be willing to make drastic changes.
