We went out plinking with the .22s this weekend. I got a .22 for my birthday and never managed to get the time to shoot it until now. Savage, pretty rifle, crappy scope.

I didn't do too bad with, all things considered. It's about an inch too long for me, but you can't really cut down the polymer stocks like that so I'll have to learn to compensate for my extra inch of phallic symbol.

I put two bricks down it and by the middle of the second brick I had a nice shot grouping and a big hole where the 10 used to be in the middle of the target.

As usual, the StudMuffin was pissed because I outshot him. ANd him with an expert marksmanship badge, too.

God, I love shooting guns (at paper/clay targets).

We should be going out and shooting the new .30.30 next weekend.

My old Highschool had the best shooting team in the entire NATION... :D

We have two .22's at my apartment right now.

The first is a brand new .22 ruger that is very nice but really needs a scope. Nice 10 shot clip and pretty accurate at medium distances but without a scope is not much good past a 100 yards.

The other rifle is my roommates and it is a 1944 butloading .22 Luger. The rifle shoots fine for its age as long as you only load 4-5 rounds in the tube. Anymore then that and it has a tendancy to jam because the spring inside the loading tube is not working properly. Normaly the gun could hold 10 rounds if the spring was not screwed up.

I don't really know that much about the rifle so I am sure there are technical terms for all the parts I just listed but I don't know them.

It's an all day affair...

To go and set up, checking your field of fire for danger zones or houses, and setting up your targets at various engagement ranges. Spending all day, drinking sodas, bsing, and doing practice stress fire drills. It sounds like you got your plinker dialed in, that 30-30 (model 74?) is a hoot to shoot! Sometime try a .300 mag for 800yards, at an iron skillet, hearing that baby twang that pan is a rush! :D

The beauty of living in the desert is you can go just about anywhere for target practise. I live close to a gun range as well so I go over there sometimes. I have not been hunting in a while and I miss it actually.

This is perfect. I have a .22 with scope at my parent's house that I never get to shoot. I could vitually shoot it here.

I've got a 7mm Magnum that I love shooting. I need to shoot long distances, or else it feels like a waste of time, at least 500 meters.

Actually, I figured you'd just buy a bigger strap-on...show people what a REAL pain in the butt feels like!

I guess that would work, too. But why would I wanna exert the energy?

Ummmm...never mind?

*Slinks away with his tail between his legs*

Foiled by Nora again! Curses!

Sounds like the kind of Lit get together we really need to have.

Yes, I notice all the holes in traffic signs (and anything else alongside the road) whenever I go to the desert.

Thats true in most of the south too.

.22 rifles are fun but I think my favorite to plink with are the High Standard semiautomatic pistols my dad collects. They are incredibly accurate and fun. Though for an apartment room you can't beat some of the pellet pistols out there, just use pellets and the pellet trap and its perfectly safe if you're a good shot. Personally the .30-30 wasn't a favorite of mine. Though I love shooting my .30-06, that is fun. My dad has an SKS that shoots the metric equivalent of a .243 or so and its incredibly fun, mainly b/c anything up to 200 yards or so with theopen sight is achievable. I love to hunt and shooting is just an extension of that fun, its the fun prep work to make sure that when I get an opportunity to shoot, the animal is dispatched as quickly and humanely as possible.

Never done much shooting with bows other than sighting in my crossbow. Don't use it much though.

My all time favorite plinking is a BB gun at popcans...just brings me back to my childhood...ahh the memories.
