Over my 21 months at Literotica I have viewed many things on this board. I arrived at Lit during one of the greatest periods of troll-hunting and a period of mass exodus from this board. It wasn't the first time it happened, and it certainly wasn't the last. I arrived in the midst of turmoil and watched what I felt was sheer idiocy. But, as I posted for the past 2 years I have noticed a number of things about this place. The overarching theme is the fact that Literotica is a community.

I have watched as people shared their heartaches and their triumphs. I have watched relationships bloom and fade. I watched as Never left her home and began college with the help of a great many people on this board. I watched as this community banded together to help various members in times of need – whether that be emotional support or tangible assistance. I watched as people embraced others and tried to help them. I watched as a relationship flourished between Problem Child and TN Vixen. I watched as several women have gone through heart-wrenching divorces. We have seen the breakup of numerous marriages. We have shared the joy of those like Kotori who have lost weight and are very happy in their new physical self. We have heard the tales of women's rapes. We have heard the woes of men who have had hard luck with marriages and dating. We have listened as people talked about losing their jobs, changing their careers, etc. I have seen Mischka discuss career worries. We have watched people like Azwed lose papers and go through panic mode. We have seen people like cymbidia who openly shared her heartbreak as well as providing assistance to many who had serious questions about sexuality that needed answering. We listened as Todd and Celestial Body shared their tales of lost virginity. We got to watch Fly on the Wall's relationship progress and share his happiness in finding a job. We heard Laurel's tales of saving the little kitties and were even allowed to watch their progress. We listened and gave advice when mothers and fathers were having trouble with their children. We give advice about illness, preparation for big events, children's emotional and educational issues. We talk about the world around us. We watched as bubblegumsugarless was helped by people on this site as she escaped her husband. We listened to Endlessly's tales of problems in her home. The members of this community shared in people's joys, their triumphs, their setbacks – financially, emotionally, and mentally. We have shared laughter, tears, heartache – everything. I have found friendship and a heartwarming relationship at this site.

Is it any wonder that people have an attachment to this place or the people who frequently post? I believe it is all a natural part of the community. One of the most tired and frequent criticisms of this place is the "clique" mentality. People bitch about the top 10 posters. People have spoken about the Royal Untouchables. I think this criticism is falsely placed. Many of the posters who have been around and posted a lot have watched and have seen a great deal. We learn about each other, we share experiences and thoughts with one another. After participating in threads, after communicating via various topics, PMs and other off the board communication, we develop a rapport. We know more about one another – we know what we enjoy, what we are like, what sets us off, what makes us tick. We learn to respect one another. We may admire one person for this or like them for some particular aspect of their personality. Most who have been around awhile, recognize the faults in each other but realize that we possess faults ourselves that are glaringly apparent on this board. We learn to like people despite these faults. I'm sure many of the people who have watched me over time can almost guess when I'm about to go off again. I'm sure many of us know when KM is about to have one of her rants. We can probably almost guess when PC, Haze or DCL are going to rip into a newbie or just make a fucking joke out of the person. I'm not saying any of this is right – I'm simply saying that we have a knowledge of one another – even if that knowledge is anonymous.

Just like in any other community, those who have lived there longer tend to get along. Those with similar interests flock to one another. Those who have similar ideas or even differing ideas who are used to arguing about it tend to spend more time with certain people. There is no hierarchy, per se, it's just the natural order of a community and of life.

When one realizes that we have watched these things, even from behind a screen, only with pixels or a voice on the phone, for the most part anonymously, we have a cyber community. In many communities, when outsiders arrive who seem to want to disrupt the order, we become protective of the community and the members within that community.

This is a very unique little site on the vast expanse of the internet. For the most part, it has been a joy to be around this place. But, I think an understanding of Literotica as a community may help some see the reasons that some so actively oppose other members. Many of us are protective of this place and of what it was and will be in the future. We are protective of this community because it provides us a place of anonymous and distanced comfort. This site operates in differing functions for every poster on the board. For some it is a place to let off steam, for some it's a place to just get away, for others it's a place to socialize, for some it's just a place to come and be a little fucker.

I thank Laurel and Manu for this site and the community they have allowed to flourish. I think the way they have handled this site – in such a professional and principled manner – is the reason this site has as much of a personal side as it does. The way this community has developed is a tribute to Laurel and Manu.

I also think the community nature of this site is why some people (like me) get so bent out of shape when people come in and seem to want to destroy the community aspect of this place.

For many reasons, and one in particular, Lit will always be more than just a porn board to me, schmaltzy as that may sound.

Ditto, oh foxy one. :)

I have to agree with you on that

I think you've just summed up everything that Lit was, is and forever will be!

Thank you, I really enjoyed reading what you had to say and I totaly agree with you....

I have a little secret to share...

I remember when Literotica was just a simple website that had a few stories. At the time I didn't know how big it would get (it even has a book!).

It amazes me, each time I return to Literotica how awsome its become. The love, the hate, the worry, the fear.... This is my third time on the board since it first began, but my first time actually getting involved with more than just contibuting to the Role Playing Board..

I LOVE the General Board. I like putting in my little thoughts and chatting with people. I recognize some names already and people here have been nice to me (well, some havent.. I wont mention names, but you all know who you are!!)

And I discovered The Amateur Pics Page... ~licks~

As a finally...
People will come and people will go, but Literotica will always be!

Words of wisdom from one of the queen bitches. It oozes with hypocrisy when your one who helped with any “Mass Exodus (translation – they all took up new characters and continues to troll newbies to try and cull the favorite ones and ditch the others…)” Fucktardess…

I thought KState ending up in the top 5 this year would put you in a good mood, AJ. Hell, even Nebraska and Colorado lost.

Happy New Year!

What's wrong with that?

Hanns will be here in about 10 to 15 minutes so someone had to take up the slack. It's not like lavy doesn't feel free to jump in with an opposing viewpoint of personal attack. It ain't beanbag...

n/a

Does your community have social outings?

BBQ's, day at the races, camping trips, clubbing, golf days, picnics, movie outings?

What a fucking exciting community to be a part of.

Hence why I am always a cunt to you lot. I see past and well beyond the pitfuls of being a part of your community. It detracts from your real life. Hence why people form relationships with other people on this board. They don't have a hope in real life. Much like they don't have much hope of actually making any real friends.

Sad cunts!

I was way off on the timing this morning.

Monday morning must be a bitch for trolls too...

So this is or isn't reality TV? So in essence you are saying that this board is like life, with real people with hopes and dreams? With success and failure, with pleasure and pain?

Well who would have thought a bunch of snotty nosed geeks from the forest would really have the balls to ascertain that sitting at the computer all day long was a community.

Well gosh darnit mamma, will wonders never cease.

I love waking up to a novel.

Morning AJ. Play nice.

This place reminds me of high school. Except our jocks were smarter ;)

Since I am a relative newbie around here, and as such haven't sen the mass exodus, I find the remarks pretty well on target. Yes we do have our ups and downs and can share them with everyone.

There are the trolls, although they make life somewhat colorful, which should learn to play a little more nicely.

There are those individuals who take a conceptual idea and cut it up it little pieces, dissecting phrases at random with wit or sarcasm maybe even character attacks.

These are all part of the community, the good, the bad, and the ugly.

I whole heartedly agree with ya Lavender.

*waves to Stormy*

Also I must dis-agree with you Kuntmode.

I have friends in RL & I do spend time with them. Most of my computer time is spent when lots of people are asleep in my time zone, but not in others. I have people who I do call friends here at lit or in my on-line gaming.

Lit is a place away to talk / bitch / gripe / flirt with others when there is no one to turn to in RL. Well it is at least to me.

my 2 coppers

I agree, lavy, that this is a remarkable community. Just as in real life, I have developed some incredible relationships with incredible people. Also - as in real life - there are those who are incredibly opposed to me.

Lit for me is a humbling and enriching experience. It is the rare personality here, that doesn't in some way reflect a portion of my heart. Sometimes that lifts me up, and other times it helps me face the man in the mirror. In the end, it becomes good for me.

Many thanks to all.

I like to think of it as a support group. People are there to make you feel better...and people are there to give you nice little wake up reality calls.

It is a community and can affect your life as much as you let it. If your attitude is that it is just online fun, that is probably what you'll get from it. If your attitude is that this place is full of real people, you may come away with a lot more than just fun.

Saying that this place has changed my life is not an overstatement of fact. Actually, the people here have changed my life. For the good.

i  lit and agree with everything lavender said ... i think you can really feel the spirit of laurel and manu in lit ... they have shaped this whole forum without leading it but letting it grow naturally

i also agree with cheyenne about seeing this as a place full of real life people ... of course its not a replacement for real life or real life friendship but its something unique and special that i don't really know how to explain :)

i do also enjoy how we all manage to get a long even though theres people with vastly different views ... those different views are part of why i come here still ... i get to know people that i never would in real life

It is because of posts like this, by people like you that I keep on coming back to Lit.

Lit is a place where I can laugh, learn, love and laze, comfortable in the knowledge that I can come back and do the same tomorrow. I have made some really solid friendships here, a few of which have gone past the board and into real life.

Thank you Laurel and Manu for my Lit... my home away from home... my escape from the mundaneness which is currently my life. Here I can be me.

Thank you Lavender for this post and the thread. Once again you come along and shake the shit out of my complacency and give me a large reality jolt. I wish I had your wordsmith abilities. You'll make an awesome lawyer.

Shane:rose:

I agree with you, Lavender. LIT provides me with a lot of laughs, insight, thought-providing ideas, along with being the "doorway" that lead me to my special 'Man.

Thank you yet again, Laurel and Manu:rose:

"Community" was the second thing I noticed when I started browsing though the posts(of course, the first thing I noticed was the tits...I seem to have a fixation!) I was warmly wecomed when I first signed up, and almost everyone seems nice. The trolls I can handle, if only because they are to be expected. I wouldn't be surprised if I ended up hanging out with some of you folks in RL...if I haven't already and just don't know it!
