An all new Literotica Interactive Fiction feature is getting closer to release, and we want to hear from authors who are interested in being part of the early testing.

If you've been around Literotica a few years, you probably remember our early interactive stories project, Chyoo. That project started all the way back in the year 2000, becoming an integrated part of the Lit ecosystem in 2001.

While we strongly believe in the potential of interactive fiction, it was difficult to make it work in the way we wanted with early 2000s web technology.

Fast forward a few years, and technology has changed a lot. We are now able to create web apps instead of websites.

For the last year or so, we have been developing and testing a new version of Literotica Interactive Stories. The project is not ready for public release yet (we need the new Lit responsive interface to be fully rolled out before interactive stories can work to start with), but we are getting closer to BETA testing.

We have spoken privately to a few Lit authors about helping to test the new system, and as we get closer, we would like to hear from more. If you're an author with experience writing interactive fiction who's interested in being a part of the development of the updated Literotica IF project, please let me know and I'll add you to our list of potential testers.

To clarify, this is not a new version of Chyoo. Our next generation IF will be a fully integrated part of the Literotica.com site, with full access to the entire Lit readership. Our goal is not only better software for authors, but also a more integrated experience to reach far more Literotica readers.

As the project gets closer to public BETA, I'll share more details on the software we've created. To start with, it has the ability to do choices, but also variables, functions, saves, and other advanced features.

Let me know if this is something the sounds interesting to you and thank you.

What would be interesting would be if you'd fix the Forum Profile editing ability.

Or if you'd even respond to any inquiries as to why it isn't working.

What is interactive fiction?

At its simplest, it's a choose your own path type story.
a. Go left into the kitchen.
b. Go right into the bedroom.

The more advanced features include variables
Sorry, you can't enter this room since you don't have a key.
You were invited to the party because you talked to a certain non player character.

And stats:
You lost the fight because your hit points were too low.
You aren't tall enough to reach the top of the fence.

That's a simple explanation, hope it makes sense.

There is a future to this but it will take a lot of patience to establish. I think.

Agree. It will take time to find its readers and the authors. There are IF communities now (for example Reddit), so hopefully over time we can re-build the community here.

I'm interested. I have no experience with published interactive stories per se, but I've been writing here for a few years. I have experience as a dungeon master in D&D, which involves spontaneous interactive story creation, and the participants have told me I did a good job. That, plus plenty of rather elaborate sexting.

Heh. Erotic text adventures. I'm in to help test drive/break this puppy.

Do I have to learn any particular programming language for the variable/random number generation/dialogue tree stuff?

That helps. It sounds a little like the text-based multi-user games that were popular in the early days of the internet.

You are in a maze of twisty little passages, all alike.

You’ve been eaten by a grue.

Zork erotica... Ok. I think I still have my hand-drawn maps somewhere...

Now it’s: you’ve been bent over by the grue and he shoves his enormous gruehood roughly into your twisty little dark passage. You:
A) moan in pleasure
B) beg for death
