I know some Litster's real names but I find that I still call them by their Lit names. And even at the last Litogether, people were more comfortable calling me Break.

You know what I mean: you've been talking to them FOREVER on Lit. You've PMd, you've IM'd, you've emailed, you may have even phoned them.

Now, they're in town for a coffee. Or you're going to meet them at the next Litogether.

Online, you know them as their screen name, and maybe you have a derivative thereof. But in real life they are Joe, Paula, Nick or Ellen.

Do you find that you still call them by their online name?

I'm still more comfortable using my username than my real name, until I get to know Litsters better.

I'm sorry. I know you asked me to call you Sebastian during our cyber and phone sessions, but I just can't do it. Break just comes much more naturally to me.

I've met people from online before (never lit) and I always call them by their screen names. On the phone too. Between being in the habit of calling them that anyway, and their online names generally being cooler than their real names it's usually what I go for.

The only time I don't is if they have a really long name or one that is composed of everyday words. For example, my name.

I'm vaguely curious about these litogethers, but I don't know if I want to meet anyone from online in real life again.

I don't know anyones real name and nobody knows mine (although a few think they do). I feel sorta left out.

Actually, in the course of conversation with another Litster about this very topic, your name came up.

I would call you Philly, not that Gertrude isnt a nice name.

Yes.
It's just comfortable. Anything else would feel alien.
You have to admit that calling them by their Lit name is weird, too.

Maybe it's because none of my friends have nicknames, but introducing people as "just pet" and "breakwall" and "stupon" gets weird when you say it out loud and a real human being is standing there.

I have a very hard time calling anyone here by the real name. I met them under their username, it stuck. But, I do have some friends here who seem very comfortable calling me by my real name. And I don't mind it at all. Off the boards, of course. ;)

If Tighty (aka Wilamena) told you my real name, she's in big trouble.

I don't know anyone's real name either (other than KS and DV81 I think)...

Anyway, you look like a Samantha or a Susan...just a guess. Take care. ;)

Peace...

It's an open secret.

I mean, I work with six Gertrudes. Its such a common name...

Not like Wilamena's husband. Now HE has a weird name.

Me too. And you're there in real life and you sound like you're a group of ex-Air Force pilots.

"Hey, I'm MechaBlade."

"Cool, I'm Honeylick. This is Iceman and Goose."

bwahah

Thats actually a good way of looking at it.

I had a friend who was HUGE on World of Warfare online stuff. He was in a "guild" or something...I have no idea...

anyway, they'd get together, and once i was out with him and a few of his friends from there and they all called each other Dracor and Gommorah and Hunsikker...it was kind of embarrassing at East Side Marios.
