What do you think about the following idea:
A 20 year old son returns from a trip/sports tournament with a tropical desease. He is running high fevers and is weakened by the desease, but it's not life-threatening. His mother (fourty-something) takes a couple of weeks off work (works for the local government) to nurse him back to health. They are very close and she is taking great pride in the fact that they seem to be able to talk just about anything. They start reminiscing about childhood illnesses and he remembers that he enjoyed her reading stories for him to keep his mind off the discomfort. She asks him whether he wants her to do that now and if there is anything specific he would like to hear. He requests that she'd switch on his computer and directs her to Lit.
He asks her to select a story from whatever category she feels comfortable with. She is completely taken aback and confused, but tries to honour his wish nevertheless. She might start off with something not overly sexual, like a story from the romance section, but regains her composure somewhat - and eventually dares to read something naughtier for him.
Well, this would be the starting point for a journey of sexual awakening and discovery. Although it may seem that it leads to an incestuous relationship, this is not exactly what I have in mind.... It is more about her, being happily married, although the tide of time has left its mark on the frequency and intensity of sexual encounters with her husband - she doesn't perceive it to be a problem and takes it as a natural consequence of being in a long-term relationship.
I have fairly concrete ideas of several twists and turns it can take from here and could of course make up short passages she is supposedly reading from stories. However, I would find it even more interesting if any authors here would allow me to quote them and use short excerpts from existing stories - thus adding a dynamic component, as I would limit myself to whatever I am offered to use. I thought that the whole thing should be in several parts - I would of course name the story and author, so that the potential readers could find it if the passage piqued their curiosity. The son might even turn out to be a budding critic.
I would surmise my character would select stories from a female perspective first and foremost, but not exclusively. The categories I had in mind would be: Romance, First Time, Loving Wives, Erotic Couplings, Mature, Humour & Satire for starters. It might branch out into other categories as well - Incest&Taboo would certainly add an interesting flavour, but I would think she would try very hard to avoid that initially...
So what do you think? Has it been done already? Worth developing? Any takers?
