Bom dia

Naõ fala portugès...

Mais je pars à Lisbonne ce week-end. Auriez vous des idées, des conseils?

I'm leaving for Lisbon over the week-end. Do you have recommendations?

Muito obrigado.

Bom dia!

I'm not from Lisbon, but whenever I go there I like to stop by Mosteiro dos Gerónimos, at Belém (it's free on Sunday mornings, so you may take advantage of that), to the Oceanary. If you don't have a problem with walking and you like to party till the wee hours of the morning, you can have a good time in a few different places at Bairro Alto (on the hillside of where the castle is).

If you find yourself downtown, at Praça do Comércio, Rua do Ouro, Rua da Prata, or Rua Augusta, and a Moroccan guy or three try to sell you sunglasses, they're actually trying to sell you pot. Don't go for it, though, it's usually crap. And keep an eye on your wallet.

Thank you for your answer, Lauren :rose:.
A Torre de Belém area is indeed high on my agenda. As is the Bairro Alto.

And I'll be careful about my wallet. I think I'll hide it where only friendly hands can come near without raising suspicion ;)

Do you have an idea of where one can spend a nice evening listening to fado?
( I can't get the words, but the beauty and deepness of fado moves me... )

I've never been to one in Lisbon - I'm from Porto - but I have heard good things about these two places:

SENHOR VINHO (www.restsrvinho.com)
Rua do Meio à Lapa, 18
Tel: 21 397 26 81

CASA DE LINHARES (www.casadelinhares.com)
Beco dos Armazéns do Linho, n.º 2 - Alfama
Tel: 21 88 650 88

Those would probably be two good places to start you off. There are tons of them in Alfama and thereabout. The people at the hotel you're staying at should be able to inform you. :)

well it is long ago by now that i was in lisbon, and i only spent three days there, but i really enjoyed it there... agree with the things lauren said (well those that i know of those)... also liked the castle... and just walking to the various view points and seeing the city on the way - i thought it was nice to just walk around in... and look into all kinds of churches (my boyfriend still complains of all the walking and visiting churches we did, but i thought there was so much to see)... i am sure you will have a great time...

ah, just remembered - there is a pretty old elevator taking you up to a viewpoint higher up - not worth taking though, i found. you can just as easily walk there, and the elevator ride isn't exciting enough to justify the cost...

The "moroccan guys" trying to sell you hashish are actually portuguese gypsies. Apart from that, all is well. But I like to keep my ethnic minority prejudices clear. :p

E as massas. - mmm, pasteis de nata...

Muito obrigado a tudo para seu conselho.
