I am getting ready to wrap a story, and would like to link a story and author that illustrates my point of the story. Can we do that?

I can't think of a good reason *not* to do this. Do you have the author's permission?

Or are you asking more generally about the HTML way to do it and if the site can do it on a technical level. If that's the case, might I recommend the following: https://www.literotica.com/s/how-to-format-a-story-with-html

I've found @FrancesScott 's work here to be incredbly useful when it comes to ensuring I'm using HTML code that the site actually supports.

You can only link to something at literotica.com from within a story. I have linked to a couple of different writers here in mine (in the author notes at the end).

Just wanted to know if it is allowed. The story is saved as a favorite, and the I follow the author. Will message him for permission, though as you said, why not? As it will give him, and the story, exposure

I linked to several authors and either stories or threads here in AH in my How To Be an Author on Literoticam that has been in pending purgatory for two months. (Don;t think that is why.)

I always linked to to author's profile page when linking to the author. No one said no to being mentioned, but I strongly suggest asking for their permission, including context of what you are citing)

Thank you for the mention.

Yes, you can link to another Lit story or author's page. I've done it several times, and have the code somewhere. PM if you like, and I'll go find it.

Only reason I can see not to do this is if there were reason to think it might be unwelcome to the other author, e.g. an essay holding their work up as an example of bad writing.

I do this all the time. It's never occurred to me to ask permission, but then I'm always doing it to promote those other stories and encourage people to read them. The couple of times I've used characters from other writers' work I've always asked first.

I have only linked to some of my own stories on occasion.

Since I submit my stories by uploading a Word document, I simply create the hyperlink using the built in feature of the application before submitting. No HTML required.

I know I personally wouldn't have a problem with that. You want to link my story as a way to encourage others to go read it? Why would I object?

I obviously wouldn't want to speak for everyone of course. I know when I'm going to link an author and / or their story in mine I will give them a heads up that I wish to do so on the off chance they may have some objection. So far no one has ever said, "Please, no, don't promote my work to others."

The couple of times I've used characters from other writers' work I've always asked first.

That of course would be mandatory; never ever use another author's characters without permission.

(I realize you obviously know and agree, just stressing it for the masses.)

The obvious answer is, "I don't want your audience because I don't think exposing my stories to them would benefit me in terms of scores or comments."
Yes, that might make sense if you are recommending across categories. I think within (most) categories, it wouldn't be an issue though, surely?

Although, when @Cagivagurl very kindly agreed to beta-read a story for me, she said I didn't need acknowledge her lest it attract the attention of certain trolls. She was worried it would negatively affect my stories. Maybe it has, and it was very kind of her to be concerned, but it wasn't going to stop me acknowledging her (in any case, said trolls would need to have read to the very end of my story to discover her involvement). So perhaps, if an author has really annoyed the readership in a certain category (to be clear, I don't think Cagivagurl has, and anyway, how would anyone know this?) then a recommendation from them might be undesirable...
