It's very easy to MUNA (Make up new acronyms). Geeks have been doing it since BE (Before Emacs). Recursive acronyms like GNU (GNU's Not Unix) make MHH (My Head Hurt). Personally I think people who use acronyms the whole time are a PITA.

This applies to the BDSM boards, but: PYL/pyl = Pick Your Label. Upper case is dominant, lower case is submissive. Since there are so many titles for each (Dom, Daddy, Master, etc. & sub, slave, slut, etc.) they use PYL/pyl to keep it simple.

I had to have this explained to me.

Me too. I thought it meant "Lots Of Luck".

The craze for acronyms seems to have started in WWII, where you had SNAFU (situation normal, all fucked up), SOS (not only Save Our Souls but also Shit On a Shingle: creamed chipped beef on toast) LST (landing ship, tank), etc etc.

Let's see, there's AFAIK, which I had to think about when I first saw it, which is "as far as I know" (well, it is AFAIK).

I don't think I've ever seen anyone use it on the internet, but in Australian slang, there's a acronym for conceited people, FIGJAM, which is "fuck I'm good, just ask me."
