Like the Membari . . .

Fans of the TV series Babylon Five know a recurring saying there is "The Membari never tell you the full story." The corporate mega-media here in the U.S. is very much like the fictional Membari. They only tell you what they want you to know.

The Observer in the U.K. recently broke a very important story about the U.S. government spying on the UN delegations of uncommitted nations on the Security Council, in order to try to get any edge possible to influence them to vote for the U.S. backed war resolution on Iraq. It was big news all over Europe. Yet the press and electronic media here have all but ignored it. (The one sparkling exception is the Baltimore Sun.)

Similarly, there are a lot of troubling inconsistencies about the Khalid Mohammed story that just don't add up. Little details such as the earlier report of his death, indications that he was actually caught months earlier in another city, that the purported video of the raid which supposedly captured him is a fake, etc. These have all been reported in the foreign press. But the U.S. media has merely faithfully parroted the official party line.

Just like in any authoritarian or totalitarian state.

When you start bringing up Babylon 5 references you are really grasping at straws. At least stick to more main stream references like Star Trek/Wars.

Hey-- Membari, Minbari: since they're fictional anyway, it hardly matters how the name is spelled.

I'm trying to figure out some way to work in a reference to LEXX, but so far I haven't managed it.
