Clark watched as the beautiful Ming Xi walked down his driveway. It would be her last visit – she didn’t need him anymore and that was after all a great thing. She was brimming with confidence now, so unlike when she first started seeing him. Ming’s stride was quick and sure, and as she swung into the driver’s seat of the new Jag XJ she flashed Clark that same winning smile that had so captivated Corey Blackthorn, the city’s most eligible bachelor. Rumors of their breakup had been circulating for months, but now they had died down – in fact the tabloids were predicting a spring wedding. Clark felt great about Ming’s success.

Social networking had spread the word, and now dozens of women exactly like the old Ming had come to Clark to be their “life coach” too. As Ming would say – his methods were unconventional but the results were undeniable. He wasn’t cheap – his series but then again no one else did what he did.

As Ming sped off, Clark looked in the mirror to critically appraise himself. Now in his early forties, he still had the body of a thirty something. His hair was graying, but that only gave him an air of authority. Well thats what he hoped anyway! His next appointment was in just thirty minutes – and while Clark seldom saw two women on the same day this was an exception.

He poured himself a drink and wandered outside to his long wooden porch. Clark worked from home, a large place indeed for a man living alone. He saw his neighbor’s daughter come home just as Ming drove off. She was at the University now – and idly Clark wondered why she still lived there. He liked her parents well enough – although they were too conservative for his tastes so they would never really be friends. They kept such a tight leash on their only daughter that Clark felt sorry for her. He waved as she caught sight of him and she waved back.

Just then Victoria arrived for her first appointment with Clark. She was driving a deep blue Porche Carrera. As she stood and unwound her blonde six foot frame from the sports car, she looked nervously back and forth. Deep lines of worry etched her face, she was clearly troubled. Clark sighed inwardly, they all were like this at the beginning. He certainly had work to do with this one.

Clark embraced Victoria and escorted her up into his house. Along the way, he said –

“You look beautiful Victoria, soon you will have the confidence to match your looks. I’m glad that you have decided to follow my system exactly, with no deviations – right?”

She nodded her head vigorously yes. As they disappeared inside, Clark noticed the girl next door watching them intently, and he was sure that she had heard every word. Idly he wondered what she could be thinking ...

Rebecca was curious as she walked a bit more slowly into her parents' house. She'd been back home from university for the holiday break, and in just the past two to three days she'd seen a myriad of women coming and going from her neighbor's own home. Every single one that she'd seen enter or exit had been strikingly beautiful, with at least one feature that she would have personally killed for.

Today, it was those long legs. Maybe if she was just a little taller, she'd stand out a little more.

Regardless, her interest was certainly piqued. She'd been keeping mental tabs ever since she first noticed the trend, and there only seemed to be two things that all of the women had in common. Their exceedingly fortunate looks, and their obvious wealth. Rebecca had never seen so many expensive cars at such frequent intervals before, even for the rather upscale neighborhood in which her parents resided.

As the current visitor was ushered inside, Rebecca could hear a few of the words carried on the light breeze. She tried to listen harder, to make out more of what he was saying to the troubled-looking beauty, but she failed at figuring out enough to make the entire situation make sense. She frowned, then blinked at the neighbor as he glanced her way. His expression sent a chill through her -- it was like he knew that she was watching, attempting to listen. And what was worse was that she couldn't tell if he was angered by it or simply intrigued in turn.

She slipped into the house and attempted to forget the whole thing, determined to put it out of her mind. She couldn't quite focus on doing that, however, and she found herself wandering out into the backyard an hour or so later. The pool was covered, dead leaves scattered over the top as she paced around it with her eyes trained on the house to her left. A fence separated them, but she still watched it with growing curiosity until she heard the door open.

Her ears perked, and she drew closer to the fence to get a sneak peak at what was going on, and perhaps eavesdrop on what was happening. Surely he couldn't see her there between the cracks of the wooden planks...

At least he probably wouldn't have, if she had not stepped on a crunchy, loudly snapping twig.

Victoria got up off of her knees, and smiled a bright smile. Clark smiled back in return, his enthusiasm genuine.

You know Victoria, I can already see a difference. You made amazing progress in just our first session. You are a natural. Any man would be proud to be on your arm, and soon you will match your outward beauty with behind equally dazzling closed door skills. Well that wraps things up for today - same time in two days - right?

Victoria nodded emphatically, and gave him a huge hug then spoke

Thank you - thank you so much!

Clark grinned and escorted her to the door, pausing to whisper something in her ear when he heard the loud crack of the broken limb. He looked over, and spotted movement behind the fence. Then he saw the figure freeze, as if hoping she hadn't been spotted. The neighbor again.

Victoria was oblivious, and nearly skipped out to her car before roaring off. Clark walked around the fence where the woman's back was facing him. She didn't hear him walk up. He took a moment to appraise her. What was she doing sneaking around? She was in the prime of her life, she should have men falling all over her. Something was wrong with this picture. She was spying on him. Leaning forward, she said into her ear -

BOO!

Now you know, if you want to ask me something, you just have to walk over and do it. In fact, I'll get us a drink if you would like ... and we can chat on this fine Indian summer day. So, would you like to come over? ....

Rebecca peered through the cracks of the fence, frowning when she realized that she'd somehow lost them. Where had they gone? What happened? She felt anger and frustration rising within her at the situation -- she wanted so badly to know what he was doing over there, and why he had so many women coming and going to and from his home. Now she was still as clueless as before--

A soft cry of surprise squeaked from her tiny frame, and she whirled around with wide eyes and a open-mouthed stare.

"I-- I wasn't... I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to.." she trailed off, babbling as she tried to find the right way to apologize to him.

He didn't seem all that angry with her, though, and he even issued a surprising invitation. She stared up at him for a moment, then stammered out a soft agreement before nodding and following behind him.

"I really meant no offense," she offered softly, her face still red despite her nerves calming considerably as she walked toward his home. "I only just got back home a few days ago, and I couldn't help but notice all of your guests. They're all very pretty and wealthy -- I was extremely curious," she confessed, managing a small, embarrassed little smile.

"Please Rebecca, have a seat."

Clark got up and poured them both a glass of Pinot Noir. He apprised her. She was clearly nervous, but very pretty in her own petite way. But there was more than just nervousness - Clark sensed that she was profoundly unsure of herself. That was perfectly normal, in fact Clark rarely saw any women of her age that were self confident.

Rebecca took a sip of the wine, and begin to relax - just a bit. Clark smiled, trying to get her to feel comfortable and then said -

"So, you are curious about me, and my guests. That explains hiding behind the fence spying on me. By the way, I don't call them guests they are paying clients of mine. So, here we are. Ask any questions that you wish - unlike most people I'll be completely honest with you. The only thing is that you must answer my questions openly and truthfully back. Do we have a deal?"

Clark took a drink as he looked deep straight in Rebecca's eyes. There certainly were questions there. And there was also some hidden secrets there too. Well, well, this was getting very interesting ...
