Tip one: when you go looking for work, don't use chat shortcuts in any correspondence. Ever. You probably already know that, but I hire interns and I can't believe how many dipshits send me emails with chat shortcuts. Don't do that. Fucking. Ever. Also, "a lot" is two words not one.

Tip two: Don't be stupid and ask a porn board for job tips.

Tip three. Score internships, as many as you can. Lazy college students who don't have internships don't get hired.

Tip four: Get a grad degree. Hide in school as long as you can until the economy improves.

Tip five: Read tips one to four again.

I got told I was too smart to work at Burger King because my application had been typed up and I didn't use chat speak.

Don't take wooden nickels from Peroxide blondes...

I'm retired now but find the following bit of advice to be true most of the time: COMPANIES HIRE FOLKS THEY KNOW, when they hire people they dont know it means one of two things: NO ONE THEY KNOW WANTS TO WORK FOR THEM or THE PEOPLE THEY WANT WANT TOO MUCH MONEY.

It will help a lot if you can speak a foreign language or two.

You'll have trouble getting a job in your field without having gone to an Ivy-League or elite university.

State colleges just don't cut it anymore...

Emigrate. A lot of more advanced countries will give short term work visas to young college grads. UK and Oz are examples. There's always crap jobs available and you might as well earn some bonus points for initiative by going OS.

I got education outta the ass, plus I got a drawer fulla certificates for one thang an anuther. I kin weld, I'm certified in sheet metal work, I got certificates for air conditioning & refrigeration, I got a FCC license, I got certificates from the military schools I graduated, the list is a long one. I been workin since I was 12, over 50 years.

Now retired, I been learnin to do other thangs. I stocked shelves at WAL-MART (legal slavery), worked at QUICKIE MART for 14 months unloading trucks and unclogging toilets, and presently own an urban farm and orchard.

Eight years of college was a total fucking waste of time, and a major pissing away of money.

Do this: Learn what your real aptitudes are. There are tests that will give you a list of the jobs youre a natural to do, and no job goes on the list that you wont be great at. The late Richard Feynman, a Nobel Laureate in physics, learned to draw from an old timer who supported himself making art but wanted to know about basic phyics. So learn from folks who're good enough to make money doing what they do. These days the average Nigga gets a diploma just for showing up, learn from people who make money doing what they do, then go do it.

There are some people who cannot attend a college or university because they have below-average intelligence.

With an economics degree, I highly recommend going on and getting your masters degree. I graduated from one of the top Econ schools in the country with a masters in macro economic theory and had no problem landing a job. We turn down those with undergrads in the subject on a regular basis.

Employers also factor in the kind of school that you went to. They will favor someone who went to an ivy-league university (such as Harvard) over a person who attended a state college or lesser institution.

Bachelors degrees are slowly becoming obsolete because literally every other person has one, the new benchmark for an entry-level job in your field of study is a masters degree. You also have back up your degree with an internship and/or work experience.

There are a innumerable amount of variables that go into getting a good job in your desired field nowadays.

I cannot ever attend college because I have below-average intelligence.

When I am going over resumes, I rarely ever look to see what school they actually graduated from. To be perfectly honest, IVY league schools are highly overrated. Sure, they carry some prestige with older people, but I believe more contemporary recruiters could care less.

Unless the school has a very poor performance rating, or is an online entity, I pretty much don't care. Schools I avoid include, Phoenix university, Capella, DeVry and Kaplan go straight to the junk pile. I am not sure what they do in those schools, but it sure as hell is not educating people.

If it's a school I have never heard of, I might do some research and check to make sure they are accredited.

Some of the best performing people that work for me have graduated from schools that most people do not even know exist.

The only time an advanced degree from an Ivy-League college comes in handy is if you're applying for a job in national or global markets, such as a finance position on wall-street. Those kinds of jobs often require MBA's from the top business schools in the entire world.

My uncle is a patent attorney who went to a no-name law school somewhere in the midwest and he makes roughly $700,000 per year. He is a millionaire..

thanks for your input, I have been polishing my resume and hoping I can get an interview at my school's career fair

idk yet susan, my freinds been getting jobs that pay 50-75 k a yr
