Whose side are you on?

Nick and Ed?

Or Shami and Dave? (Now there is an unlikely pairing.)

I've had a mad crush on Shami Chakrabarti for years. But self regulation of the press hasn't worked, they've been warned dozens of times in the past. I say legislate.

I see that as the thin end of the wedge. Once politicians get their hands on those levers they will keep on adding more.

At the moment, the press are completely unaccountable. You can't even sue for libel unless you're a gazillionaire. They brought this on themselves, fuck 'em.

Did you read her interview in the Mail? (Yeah, I know, but it is her words)

I would rather have the British press unfettered rather than let people like
Blair and Cameron in control. After all, it was the press that revealed what went on in the Murdoch empire.

And we would still be in the dark about MPs expenses.

Harriet Harmon disagrees. She points to the Irish system which co-exists with the European Human Rights regulations quite comfortably.

Has it been challenged? It's just as well Sinn Fein are unlikely to gain power. All the papers would be An Phoblacht.

Part of the problem is not whether it sits well with the HRA. It is who is in a position to influence its use.
