Howdy, folks.
I've just gotten my first 15 chapter, approx 5-6 pages per chapter submission to Lit kicked back for under-18 and too violent. I never state the ages of the characters explicitly within the story, but I can fix that with a note at the start stating all characters are 18+. The "Is there excessive degradation, violence, snuff, or abuse of characters in your submission?" comment on the submission is what I'm here asking about, however.
The story *is* harsh, I won't contest that in the least. There are scenes containing spanking/paddling/crop, welts from a single cane strike that don't evaporate between chapters, painful electrical shocks used to enforce draconian rules, noncon hetero and lesbian sex, heavy bondage, strong dominance, etc. The deliberately never-named protagonist is captured in the first chapter and it spirals rapidly down from there from her point of view.
She is tossed into a bed with a 'sister,' aka fellow captive, about half way through the story. This other captive turns out to have lost all her teeth and her arms. The two of them can't talk at this point without risking those painful shocks, so the protag's internal dialog has her assuming the worst - that the captors 'took' her fellow captive's arms as punishment. 2 or 3 chapters later in the story, it's explained she lost them in a motorcycle accident, but the protag can't know that on first meeting.
Given all this, I'm trying to better understand Lit's requirements for publication. Yes, this is a rough tale. There are other rough tales on the site, so clearly there's some things which are acceptable and others which aren't.
I guess my questions are,
1- given the above summary, can you see the story being accepted on Lit at some point without a major rewrite?
2- If a major rewrite is required for publication here, what theme or themes above need changing?
Thanks in advance,
