OK peeps. Let's talk about tattoos, if you have them don't have them, would ever get one or not, what you find sexy about them or if they just repulse you. Do you get them becase they mean something to you or just because it looks cool or may cause some type of controversial discusion. And lets hear about the most interesting tattoo that you may have seen. It's open folks, lets go.

Ok, I'll start it with the most interesting tattoo that I have ever seen. A friend of mine who jsut happened to be a tattoo artist had a tat of Rapunzel in the tower with her hair winding down it in to the bushes. Now you may say the that doesn't sound very interesting wxcept that the tat was on his penis, and the bushes were his pubic hairs. Now that was an interesting tat. I may make the next few posts but hopefully others will join in my monologue making it an actual conversation.

Why get your first tattoo. I dunno. I got mine because I was with fivewomen who wanted to get thier first tats. I couldn't be the only one not getting one. We were in the Army at the time and I was the only one with a car. So we all piled in and went downtown. Thinking back on it now I know that we made some mistakes... we didn't check out the shop beforehand, we just picked one out of the phone book and went to it. Since then I have always researched the artist that was going to be slinging ink in my skin. I watch for hours to see what kind of work they do and how they dispose of the needles after the tat is finished. I now have some awesome tatoos and even one that has won awards. Let's hear from others on this subject.

What kind of tat to get

What kind of tat is best for you? I can't answer that for you but I know what works best for me. I always try to get my tattoos to say something about me, my life or who I am. For istance my most fav tat is one that involves my kids. I have 5... all living in the same house and all a joy in thier own way. This particular tat is actually the work of two artists. The base of the tattoo is the triumph and tragedy masks. Above the masks are five roses with a banner running around and through them with all of ky childrens names. The masks speak of what raising kids can be all about as long as you are involved with them. Those will be the only names I will ever put on my body. To put my wifes name on my body would be the curse that ruins our relationship. This tat is also my award winning tat. Ok, lets hear what you have to say about this subject.

Coolest tat I ever saw....

but wouldn't get.

My uncle's best buddy while he was in the Navy, got this tattoo while on shoreleave in Tokyo. Traditional Yakuza style (without all the fancy lil' nuances that mean you're actually part of a Yakuza clan) dragon. Head between his shoulderblades, wings out to his elbows, body wrapped around his entire torso, claws over his kidneys and tail that ended on his buttcheek.

First thing I said was "HOLY CHRIST!!!!" And I said it several more times as I found out how LITTLE he paid for it. But then again he slept standing up for two weeks until it all healed so he paid, just not in cash. Took four artists almost 9 hours to do it all and for him to be able to get it all done at once.

Me personally I've got quite a few and planning a few more...
I'll come back and tell all about them.

Hey I got my first tatt. about a year ago. I've always wanted one, but i'm afraid of the needles:eek: But one day I finally did it & omfg Im glad i did i got it on my left calf it is a heart w/ flowers around it w/ flames comin out the top of it. It also has 3 ribbons running through it w/ all my kids names in the ribbons.:D
I'm goin down next month to get another one. You can say im addicted to ink lol. my next one is going to be somethin like a wizzard type fairy on my lower back. I seem to wear really short clothes hehe. I like to show them off. the reason i get them is because im a full irish red head & im very pale skinned (i cant tan at all) so i decorate my skin for a little color lol :D

two tats here... a Tenn Walking Horse is above my left breast and a horseshoe with a single rose is on my right ankle.
I think they tell their own story as to why I have them if you have ever ridden one!

I have to put my two cents in, I have one. It a a butterfly coming out of the bush (so to speak). I want another one, a ladybug on my big toe.

mayi:rose:

I think all tats should be a reflection of you as a person or have some special meaning in your life... I tell everyone that asks about getting one that the most important thing to consider is if you are going to be able to look at it when you are 80 and still find it beautiful and meaningful... I have four myself and plan to get more as time goes by... My husband and I got matching arm bands with the Japanese sign for Destiny in the middle on Sept 13 of this past year... We knew that our lives were changed forever and it was our way of commiting ourselves to roll with whatever life throws at us...

Having done active duty time in the Navy I have seen a lot of work, some good and some bad, some with meaning and some the result of too much alcohol... I say they are a form of expression and are each beautiful in their own way...

my tat

I have a tattoo on my right shoulder blade. Its a japanese symbol for Tiger. I am a major tiger lover. They are a very beautiful animal, also my nickname is actually tiger, or ti for short, usually just ti. My next tattoo is of a butterfly with a tigers face for its wings. Very beautiful indeed. I also love butterlies too, so why not get both in one.

But the coolest tattoo I have ever seen was on my brothers forearm. It was of a devils face with his tongue sticking out with a naked women lying face down on the tongue, and when my brother flexs his forearm muscles, it looks like the lady is humping the devils tongue. Very unique, and brilliant i think to make it look like an animation.

*chuckles* yeah, I would have created it myself, but that thread didn't subscribe right so when I went looking for it this one was already here....

Mine

okay, earlier I promised to talk about mine, now first everyone should know I'm a self taught student of eastern history and philosophy, and a higher education student of european, african and middle eastern history and philosophy. Damn, I shoulda skipped accounting and become a history professor.

Okay anyway....I have two dragons, very similar but not quite the same, one on each shoulderblade facing out, I have a design directly between them that is a circle that resembles a Celtic knot, but it's not one. on my right shoulder, I have the chinese character for dragon, below which in simple calligraphy is "USMC", and on my left shoulder the character for infinity (cantonese characters, not mandarin--the cantonese characters for dragon and infinity are very similar due to the belief that the dragon is infinite--oddly similar to ancient celtic beliefs hmmmmmmm) and below that again in simple calligrapy, "semper fi". On both arms just below the calligraphy are bands that are melds of tribal and celtic traditional designs. On each side of my ribcage, only visible when I'm shirtless or wearing a very open tank top, I have crossed swords, on the right, samurai shortsword clashing with samurain longsword (wakizashi), on the left, a curved saracen blade crossed with a broadsword. and finally at the base of my back is a simple rendition of my family crest.

Badmatt just one question.......

can I lick them?

Mine is in the early stages currently, the graphics are being done but once complete it will be a zebra swallow tail butterfly done at the base of my spine with the wings flowing over each cheek.

Dawn

I suppose I am kinda conservative, no tatoos here. I used to want one that said, "USA Steel" on my butt, but, I was concerned about wearing a thong in public....

I dont' have any, but if I were to get one it would be of a dragon. Whether it was Eastern or Oriental I'm not certain.

Dracoa

I think you'd probably like the ones I have...one has a blue flame engulfing it and the other looks like it's tearin' through my skin, as far as style, I'd say they're mixes of european and eastern.

I was walking along Hollywood Blvd one night and looked up at the Mann's Chinese theater and saw the dragon there... I knew right then that I had to have it as a tattoo... I went to a shop near LongBeach and had a guy draw it up for me... It is the most awesome thing ever and my one of a kind...

I probally would. I'm just slightly obsessed with dragons.

Hmmm, I've got this necklace that I had made at a Ren Faire, it has two dragons on it, I could probally go for both, one oriental and one european. And since they both face different ways, I could have them facing inwards on my back towards a symbol or something, chances are it'd be dragon related.

Dracoa

You know, I've also seen some dragon tats kinda like mine, that almost have a tribal quality to them. and as for symbols, you could always do one of the oriental characters for dragon, or you could look for a cirlce knot that's actually a dragon, seen lots of those

I met a guy once who had two tattoos, one on either arm, but of the same dragon... One was done in full color and detail and the other was done in thick tribal lines so that you had to look for the dragon in it... It was really cool and not something that a lot of people have...

my tatts

Ok Matt, now I dont feel so bad about being the only one posted on here so far with lots of tattos, yours sound fantastic.

I have 5 and as will come out in the next few moments, I am a fan of big cats.

On my left upper arm; a wolf with two wolves heads inside

On my left shoulderblade; a panther skin ripping

On my right shoulder blade; my version of a watchers eye

On my left ankle; a panther surrounded by tribal style flames

On my right ankle; a tigers head at my knee and tribal lines comming down to stop right on the ankle bone

All of my tats except the ones on my shoulder blades were done by myself, but if I had the chance to go back and redo it all over i would go professional as I might not be having problems keeping the ink in my skin.

Why so many, especially on a female? Its the buzz of the needle, a mixture between erotic and addictive. and yes, I plan on getting more.

Teaser,

Lets see a pic of that one it sounds awesome. Also, I guess that it may be true what they say about geting a tattoo... Either you get one and are done or you are addicted to the needle for the rest of your life... I fall into the second catagory.

Later,
:p
