I do not consider male/female labels as derogatory, merely descriptive. I suspect any argument against their use is because they disregard those people who are in that 'grey' area of undefined sex, somewhere in that group who refer to themselves in the collective as LGBTI. I use "female" and "male" as adjectives, and "woman" and "man" as nouns. So female : male as woman : man. Using female and man in the same sentence sounds discordant. That's why when I quoted the original post way back up in this thread, I swapped out the original "female" for "woman" and "man" for "male", to demonstrate how off-putting it appears. I don't necessarily find it offensive, but I do note when men will call themselves men while calling women females.
