I love that tradition. My family is loud and even when I host (which I enjoy), I need a break from everyone. That’s not a reflection of anything other than what recharges me - both family time and some quiet to process

I love that you got a win and they enjoyed their gifts!

Even when my sister tells me what her kids want, their obsessions change quickly and they’re so overstimulated at the holidays that they can’t always react how they truly feel.

Side note: I’m staying in an Airbnb with family on a short new years trip, including a 9 year old along with 3 slightly older kids/ teenagers. The most common shenanigans has been around stealing the best Christmas gift blanket to cuddle under
