Let the Games Continue!

A ritual now

a ritual then

but let us think

just once again.

The rowdy young men

now, as then

fulfilling that quest

to be the best.

Would we rather they fight and steal and die

or compete and conquer and try

to replace and improve if they could

what their fathers achieved if they would?

The sport of the sport is disdained

by the effete as so acclaimed

that aggression is recession

to male pride and obsession

so named.

They sneer and they jeer

and look down their nose

at the Flo’s and the Joe’s

that so many cheer.

They throw up their hands

in mock salute

to the fans in the stands

who are never mute.

They scream for fine arts and drama
.
as they sip French wine in the sauna;

they give trucks to girls as toys

and frown at the loudy rowdy boys.

‘Tis the nature of the beast they seek to tame

to deny they decry and fastidiously claim

the equality of allity no gender import

as if nature would deign to rapport

The lamb and the lion shall n’er lie kine.

the male shall not always supine

nor acquiesce to the feminine clime

t’is but a small matter of time.

It is fact as well as fact can be

the change a’comin’ you should see

when men were men and proud to be,

an ancient past you might discern

look; listen and maybe learn…

Let the Games Continue! He did say

as Froggy went a’courtin’ on his way;

they compete for status and for mates

and who are we to deny the fates?

Watching the competitions...in Athens...I had many thoughts...and I had hoped to get a serious write out of the experience...instead...I got this...make of it what you will

Not bad Amicus :)

I must admit I've had a few thoughts myself while watching the various events and witnessed so much incredible talent. I've shared some of the joy and felt some of the disappointment but I can honestly say the thing that's overriding that all for the moment is my inexplicable feelings about the fantasy of 'entertaining' Paul and Morgan Hamms (sp?) the USA gymnasts who are identical twins and whom I saw for the first time in my life yesterday. Hell I can think of a few paces I'd like to put them through... :D

Let the games continue!
