I heard that on a comercial once, still make me giggle.

Are we ever going to talk about writing here?

I much prefer to talk about ducks. Upon first read, I thought you wanted to talk about dicks.

*phew*

Well, there's writing, and then there's writing. Mostly it's hard work with damn little notice and few rewards. However, some writing is famous for grabbing reader's attention:

...In the same hour came forth fingers of a man's hand, and wrote over against the candlestick upon the plaster of the wall of the king's palace: and the king saw the part of the hand that wrote: All have been judged and found wanting.

That's a loaded question. How do you do it? What techniques you use? Could you should examples? Explain how its done.

I wish I could answer this right now, but alas I have writers block and my muse is being apathetic.
Usually a subject comes along triggered by something I have seen or read, then the character forms in my head and starts to talk to me, we work on some dialogue first, then they show me the scenery and introduce me to the other characters.
I scribble a few things on paper first, then start to type it and hopefully there is a flow where things just feel like the story is writing itself.
