It's been snowing for 24 hours now! Woohoo! I'll probably kill myself trying to drive tonight.

Well, if anyone wants it, I have snow 5 to 6 inches deep in my front yard, and the wind to go with it. I'm not looking forward to shovelling it tomorrow morning, especially since I've already been out and shovelled 4 times today to keep it to a minimum depth. That wet snow is back breaking to move around. Anyone wanna trade places? :(

Snow, eh?

Ole Mother Nature is fooling us here. 75 and Sunny. The forecast for tomorrow 72 and sunny. 70's until Thursday when it drops to............*Drum roll* 62 and Partly Sunny.

Now I am not bragging, because actually I am/was ready for some colder weather, have already had the "change of seasons" cold/flu once, basically mowed my grass to nothingness and put in the winterizer fertilizer...........

.........Mother Nature is just fooling us here, I think we are in for a bad winter in NC. Ice and Snow in big portions this year.

Hell my cousins in MN have already had snow TWICE this year. First time around, oooooooo 16 inches and now last night/today/tonight.......another 12 inches.

So, being that I would actually like to have a white Christmas........I say to the snow ~ Bring it ON. :D

I hate the snow.
It snowed last night for the first time this winter.

I *really* thought i'd make it out of this godforsaken corner of the country BEFORE i had to deal with snow again. I've been getting up every morning for weeks and beeseeching the sky gods, "Oh please please please, no snow today, no snow tomorrow, no snow until after December 6th. Please!" I thought they were listening. Apparently i did something to piss them off, though. You know how touchy sky gods can be.

I was born and raised in San Diego; right under my name on my birth certificate is the statement indicating that, by right of birth, i do NOT have deal with snow unless i am going up to the mountains to go skiing.

Having lived my entire adult life, outside of these last two horrifying years, in the San Francisco Bay area, i was entirely unprepared for the real-life misery of living in a place where the water freezes in the air and falls down to cover the landscape with a treachery of white stuff. Snow is *not* as pretty when one is in the middle of it as it is on TV. Snow is *not* as fun to drive in as, say, it would be to contract cholera.

Nine days more.
Only nine days.
I'm going home in nine days.

Please... beseech your local sky gods on my behalf, won't you, to leave off dropping that accursed snow on eastern Washington until after December 6th.

Thank you.

The early snows are the best

Yes, it's true, like the ones at season's end they are heavy to cope with, but today we make the glorious transition into winter. What point is there to living up here if not to revel in the unmistakable procession of the seasons? No namby-pampy mid-atlantic pretend winter sullies the upper midwest, we get all four seasons done to a perfect turn.

Tonight, in spite of the winds wrapping around this low pressure, calls for bundling up properly to go for a walk - down the road, into the woods, wherever the spirit takes me - to bask in the falling white blanket. It muffles and softens everything, it soaks into your hair at this time of year, it is the best of all days, it is the first snowfall.

Then, of course, coming in one is moved to build fires and drink warm mugs of whatever catches one's fancy after the walk...

aw i love the snow i wanna make snow angels too :)

hope it snows here before christmas

Hey for y'all that have snow ~ don't eat the yellow snow

:D

SNOW!!

My daughter saw her first snow today at 7 months of age! What a rush!!! I do not believe that I have ever appreciated snow as much as today! I got to see it through her eyes; eyes unspoiled with pain, bitterness and disappointments; eyes that saw something as new to her as she was to the snow! I do not think I have ever been as happy as I am today. This memory will linger forever and of course I took pics. I am a proud Mom!! I hope that everyone that reads this gets even a tiny taste of the happiness that I am feeling right now. Let it snow! Let it snow! Let it snow!!!

Children are the fountain of youth, Power. Parenting cannot be understood by those who are childless.

OK, I now have about a foot or better of that white crap in my front yard, and you can't even tell I shovelled 4 times yesterday. My sidewalk that I tried so hard to keep fairly clear to ease my aching back today is now nonexistant. At 3am, the local school is 2 hours late and the way it saunds out there, it'll probably close. I had someone stuck in the street outside my window and woke to spinning tires and revving engines. The wind is STILL blowing far to hard and I'm ready for spring now. Anyone from the warm south care to switch places with this Minnesota gal? :D

you want some fucking snow?!?

we've got enough fucking snow up here for everybody a hundred times over! it's been fucking snowing for over a MONTH! a month and a HALF, even!

ok, ok. so i said i was leaving for good.

so i lied.

i'm also failing all my classes, lost my girl (be happy i'm alive after that one), my paycheck BOUNCED (on the same dayi lost my girl) b/c the fucking bank the store uses "forgot" to process a $20,000 deposit, and i generally spend my time alone playing games to keep me from thinking about how shitty things are (though it still is better than if i had stayed down in the lower 48).

but i DID get a $.25 raise at the job i've been at for the past month or so.

yay.

Find the highest hill where you live, curl up with a friend and adult beverage, and watch the poor souls in their autos try to climb it! You'll bust a gut! Watch out for the ice. :D

Scyllis! Welcome back! :)

Good seeing you again!

*blows a kiss to Scyliss while rubbing her aching muscles after shovelling MORE of that shitty white stuff*

If school's closed, then why the am I @ school?!

Good question.. Wish my fucking parents had bothered to ask it before sending me out the door @ 5:30 in the AM into shitty, and just plain terrible road conditions.. My friend and I made the damned thirty-mile drive to the university where we take college classes through the PSEO program, and I get here to check the school closings, and what do I see?! My damned home school is closed! You see.. The rule is that if your home school is closed, then you're not required to show up.. But I guess my parents neglected to wait and see if Monticello would close or not.. Fuck me.. That thirty-mile trip took me about an hour to complete, slipping and sliding along the county roads and then the interstate.. I should've just stayed in bed.. Oh well.. Fuck the classes.. I'll just stay here @ school till my friend gets out of his first class.. Then I guess it's back home.. What a great day..

For anyone who is interested ...I have plenty of snow in my yard in the UP to give to anyone who really needs it.
Actually, I love the snow but after 5 months, white sure gets boring.
We have a saying here in the fall "Enjoy the colors, the next one's white!"

I live in the lower midwest where we get cold and damp and miserable, but our snow (when it comes) quickly becomes dirty and sloppy.

I'm seriously thinking of moving north, because my fondest memories of youth are of deep snows on bright winter days when school is out for another two weeks and all the Christmas presents aren't even put away yet.

My kids need a Christmas like that.

Hell, EVERYbody needs a Christmas like that.

Honey, I hate to break it to you, but you are nuts. Right now, I'm looking out my window and seeing the 12 inches of snow on the ground and watching more of it fall. I shovelled 4 times yesterday and I've been out 3 times today to try and keep up with it. My whole body aches cuz it's wet and heavy, and I am about ready to admit defeat and let the damn stuff sit there til spring.

Fond memories are great, but I'm looking at the reality. And it really bites!

:D
