I have never considered that and I won't start now. But I *can* see SciFi routes there, where one is absorbed into a body whilst retaining some consciousness.

Certain species of fish IIRC have multiple little males absorbed by the big female; they remain as nerve centers and testes or whatever. Let's have a Big Mama alien who entices human guys into sex, where they're subdivided: balls clustered around her uterus, shrunken brains in her knuckles.

Soft vore often doesn't involve fatalities. If there is death, it's depicted in a mild manner, or strongly implied, not often graphic. Sometimes age regression or some other shrinkage for the victim is involved. Or the predator is a giant or mutant, or sorceress. A lot of soft vore involves women, either as victim or predator. In non-fatal soft vore the victim can be swallowed temporarily, without digestion. There's an artist, Kibate, on Hentai Foundry, who did an interesting comic sequence, "My Girlfriend's Mother," about this. A person can be consumed in soft vore for any reason, some of it magical (life-force absorption and all that), or some other power play by the predator. It doesn't necessarily involve food.
