Hello:

A fellow author tipped me off that there are some very intelligent and well informed lesbians in this forum. For you, I have a question. I’m working on a novel (the erotic parts of which are available on this cite,) in which two female characters have an on-going sexual/emotional relationship. One of these women is slightly more worldly than the other, and knows that women loving women is not as crazy or uncommon as social convention would lead one to believe. This character, Lise, experiences a traumatic event which sends her into a kind of post traumatic depression. My fledgling idea for her spiritual recovery involves her discovering the work of Sappho. I think it will be restorative for her to learn that she fits into a historical context of women who love other women in a romantic way. Here’s my question. In what literary source in 1550’s Europe might she stumble upon such a reference? Accessibility issues make the forums very cumbersome for me to navigate. If you have a suggestion, could you please e-mail me directly? I won’t be able to check the forum for feedback. Thanks, The Golden Smog.
