What are the Leonids?
Every year in mid-November, Earth passes close to an area of the debris trail left from the passing of periodic comet Tempel-Tuttle. The trail is littered with very small sand grain sized pebbles and dust that have been eroded from the comet by the solar wind and radiation. As Earth collides with this trail of dust every year, we usually can observe a meteor shower with some 15 to 20 meteors visible every hour.

Well even if it wasn't cloudy, I am in the middle of London, so ambient light would make it pretty much impossible anyway :( too bad, I really love a nice sky show.

They were great last year; I watched them from a beach on the Outer Banks in NC.

Tonite I'll head to a beach near my home here on the east coast of Canada after midnite.

Awesome when they start peaking; second only to the Northern Lights.

I may go for a spin in my private jet tomorrow night...will let you know if I see them.

I was flying to Vankewver one time when venus and mars were next to each other in the sky and got invited up to the pointy end by the bizclass flight attendant, an old galpal. Eight miles high...It was quite lovely. And the planets were nice too. Have fun in your jet...Bytchin!

Would you fucking believe it  We've not had fog at all so far this autumn/winter and tonight for the first time it's socked in.

Well, Illinois is known for being cloudy for the entire month of november, but if it's clear I'm there. For the 10pm anyway. The 3 am is a bit too much for me.

Lance - that's pretty much what we'll be doing tonight... the night is beautiful, not a cloud in the sky.

I'm sure we'll be out to see it. We've moved further out from Houston now too so hopefully we can see it "naked eye" easily. Otherwise the telescope will be pulled out onto the golf course tonight. Might suggest that anyway just for the fun of it.

Even if you don't get to see the leonids due to the full moon, you'll get a nice view of Jupiter if you wait a little while.

I was in Pine Island, between Duck & Corolla....beautiful spot. OBX might be the very nicest place in the whole USA. Lucky you!

Gladly! Anything to keep BillyJo where he can do as little damage as possible.

Clear here.

Happened to me last year...clear skies up to about 6 pm, then clouds, then clear the next day. I must've pimp-slapped my karma or something.
