I found this site in October 1999. I did a search for free erotic stories and ended up here. The site fascinated me because of all the options it held, the stories, the BB, the chat room(s). And it was/is FREE!
I ‘lurked’ on the BB for a long time before I became a registered member. In the time I have been reading the BB, I have noticed many changes. There has been a lot of caring threads, bitchy threads, political threads, fun game threads, religious threads. It was a diverse place to read just about everything imaginable.
What made/makes it so special for me is the fact that Literotica is made up of so many unique people. People from different ethnic, religious, political, age group backgrounds. Every day there is interaction between people who are students, doctors, lawyers, blue collar workers. A small city of its own in this vastness of the internet. Every member of this community has helped build it with their contributions, whether it be by writing a story, posting on the BB, or belonging to the chat room.
In real life you can’t have everyone in the city like you. Everyone has a uniqueness about them which draws together people who can identify with certain qualities. The same goes for Literotica. You read posts made by people and you can form a bond with them because of their style, beliefs, etc. Or you can dislike them for the same reasons.
In the last few months I have watched the BB go from one attack on a member to another. Where posters take sides, watching it almost turn into a gang war. I know I have probably offended someone at one point or another, but by reading comments, I have tried to put into perspective whether it was meant as constructive criticism or just plain meanness. Meanness I can ignore, constructive criticism, I try to learn from.
I don’t always agree on what everyone has to say and I very seldom will post on a thread I know little about. That’s my right. I do read most of the threads on the BB and may agree or disagree with the writer. I think people need to remember that words do and can hurt, and once spewed are difficult to redeem. No one person should have to be thick skinned to participate in a community such as Literotica. If after a few threads, I dislike how a person posts, I generally will not read anything else they post.
There are a lot of people at Literotica who I admire and respect, and there are some I find not worth my time, such is life. I do not employ the ignore function, that’s just me. Plus, I may miss something, you know like a person who rubbernecks to see what’s going on, I may miss a thread that really draws my interest.
As for the upload thread, many people have been interacting here way before that function was added. You found people you could relate to before you ever saw what they looked like. To flame people because of their looks, I feel, is wrong. The real beauty of a person is found on the inside. And I truly believe there is a special someone out there for everyone. I would like to believe that people are attracted to others, not by just their looks, but by what a person possesses inside their heart and mind.
Laurel and Manu have a wonderful site here that is constantly growing. Some members will move on, some will stay. But like real life, people come into and leave our lives every day. We may form an instant attachment to them and we may not. We may agree with their views on things, we may disagree on things. This is what makes each of us unique. It would be boring if we all had the same ideals on everything. There would be no room for debate, growth or improvement.
Now that I have stated my opinions, I will steel myself for the flames that are sure to follow.
