A writer is proposing that California abolish parenthood so that the state can "achieve true equity."

The outlandish proposal was presented in an article published in the "opinion" section of the Ventura County Star – a daily newspaper published in California. The publication is owned by Gannett – the largest newspaper company in the United States. The article, titled "California should abolish parenthood, in the name of equity," was also republished by Yahoo in its "news" section.

The author of the piece is Joe Mathews – a co-president of the Global Forum on Modern Direct Democracy, which is "dedicated to those active on issues of direct democracy, participation and citizens' rights around the world."

The article touts Californians as having the goal of "equity" to be their "greatest value." However, Mathews notes that parenthood prevents true equity because "fathers and mothers with greater wealth and education are more likely to transfer these advantages to their children, compounding privilege over generations."

Legitimacy matters.

Equity means equal rewards for unequal performance and behavior.

How many people have looked at their birth certificates? I have. I am certificated as "legitimate." My parents deserve credit for that. They were married for five years until they could afford to raise me. A teenage girl who is impregnated by a high stepping drug dealer with a big wad of bills who disappears when she tells him, "Honey, I'm pregnant," should be held up for public ridicule.

Children who are raised by both biological parents living together in matrimony by tend to have many fewer problems in life than other children. Children are the responsibility of their parents Responsible married couples should not be taxed to pay for the illegitimate children of the morally irresponsible. Most of those children are horrid little monsters who become just as worthless, useless, and dangerous as their unmarried parents.

When Aid for Families of Dependent Children (ADFC) was introduced during the presidential administration of Franklin Roosevelt, it was specifically limited to widows, deserted wives, and their legitimate children. We need to get back those punitive moral standards.
