Globally, things have changed dramatically over just a few decades.

Europe has gone from being divided after ww2 between a western and soviet sphere of influence, to a break up of the Soviet Empire and of a few independent States, and then to the European Union and a resurgence of Russia as a superpower, and now to the possible disintegration of the European Union.
-- Confusing, isn't it? There's a mixture of randomness, chaos versus order and patterns, which adds to the confusion and the difficulty in formulating a coherent narrative.

Moreover, in Europe and the US the power holders seem to be changing from democratic to republican parties.
Mark Blyth claims that "The era of neoliberalism is over. The era of nationalism has just begun".

It's hard to make sense of things and to develop a coherent narrative. Therefore, one can understand why conspiracy theories are becoming increasingly popular among laypeople (myself included).
So:

1.Are all these events consequences of 'master plans' that failed to materialize, either because they were poorly planned or because of Public's protests? (see Brexit, Trumpism and other anti- globalist movements).

2.Or are we being manipulated and duped by Elites so to speak, specifically:
- Are these Left versus Right dichotomies / Globalism versus Nationalism (which come to primacy according to the mood of each generation) in fact false dichotomies and 'decoys' to keep us divided and distracted?
- And do they in fact represent two sides of the same collectivistic coin?
And, despite the oscillations between the two 'extremes' over the years, are we engaged in a clear trajectory towards collectivism and concentration of power in the hands of the State and the 0.01%?

-to paraphrase a highly controversial public figure: G. Edward Griffin-
