Has anyone heard the news reports about the Leather & Lace convention? It seems that the group has booked all 120+ rooms in a hotel (that is probably a little strapped for business at the moment) for their annual bash. Various seminars, classes and social opportunities are on the agenda.

However, it seems the good people of the city where the event is being held are concerned about the safety of their community. When assured by convention organizers that the group was not a danger to anyone, least of all the townsfolk. Local political leaders responed to those comments with their concerns about the "after convention" activities.

After passing inspections by the state attorney general and the health department the convention will be permitted to occur on schedule. The health department has reserved the right to make "unannounced inspections" to determine if any conditions exist which risk the public health. Specifics about the nature of the inspections were not disclosed (at least publically).

Does it strike any of you that people who are willing to register, pay a fee, and hand over credit card information are less likely to "be risks to public health" than the red necked male who figures wearing a condum makes him less a man.

I'll take my chances with some organized perversion any day!

I don't think that the good citizens have anything to worry about. Its just grown up fun. It'd probably do alot of those folks on the city council good to get paddled now and then.

What say you? Do you think that if there is no triggering event that politicians or concerned citizens should stick their nose in this event?

I though that was called "Beat me in ST Louis?"

Yea, it was "Beat Me in St Louis", but I thought that was a location title for the Leather & Lace convention.

Sounds pretty typical for St. Louis, Misery

Does it now? Yet more generalizing.

I'm afraid that I ahd nothing to do with those comments about being concerned for our community. I'm all for it.

Lo - who just doesn't understand people sometimes.

Damn! Is that convention this weekend? And here I am stuck at home writing term papers when all that fun will be going on just 50 miles away. MY LIFE IS SO SAD!!!

I read an article in the paper about this. Some organization (can't remember which one) wanted to have the convention canceled because it was a public health issue. I can't believe how narrow minded people still can be, although I suppose I shouldn't be surprised.
