My 78 year old mother is reading the newspaper when she comes across a word she is not familiar with.
"What's a brothel?" she asks. "Is that something like a brother?"
I take a deep breath and wonder how to phrase it.
"A brothel is like a house of prostitution," I say delicately.
"Oh, like a whorehouse," she responds.
